The Madison Children’s Museum is a must-visit destination for families, offering an engaging and interactive space where kids can explore, play, and learn. Located in downtown Madison, this museum is thoughtfully designed with hands-on exhibits that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and curiosity. One of the standout features is the Rooftop Ramble, an outdoor area where children can interact with live animals, explore a greenhouse, and enjoy breathtaking city views. Inside, the Wildernest is a perfect play area for toddlers, while Possible-opolis offers inventive challenges that inspire older children. The museum frequently updates its exhibits and hosts special events, making every visit unique. The space is vibrant, clean, and safe, with plenty of opportunities for kids to climb, build, and explore. The staff is friendly, engaging, and always eager to help children get the most out of their experience. While the museum is ideal for younger children, older kids can still enjoy the more interactive exhibits. With its perfect blend of education and entertainment, the Madison Children’s Museum is an excellent choice for families looking for an enriching, hands-on experience. It’s a place where kids can let their imaginations run wild while learning through play.

We go to a lot of children's museums and the Madison Children's Museum is special. Big spaces inside, lots of upcycled and sustainably sourced materials with natural non toxic materials (learned this on a special tour tonight). During the pandemic, they replaced a parking lot space with a beautiful climbing area, plantings, and a historic cabin that the kids can explore. One of the best and most aesthetically appealing play areas I've ever seen. There's a rooftop garden with a small waterfall and pond, with chickens, bunnies, and an exploration center with turtles, some fish, and a worm farm. Also some beautiful views of the lake and the State Capital building. Check out some of the pictures I posted - they do a better job of showing off what's there than words do. The museum offers lots of programs throughout the year, do check out their website if you're looking for a fun, educational excursion for your kids. And the art center has someone to craft for all ages, every day.

-Please like my review if helpful- We had a blast. It was a rainy Madison day so we took the kiddos here. They had to much fun climbing, running around, exploring, painting, and learning new things. The roof top had 2 amazing views. 1 of the capital and the other of the lake. It's a must see from this roof top. The second floor has painting and crafts. Or is also enjoyed climbing a huge tube like set up with a couple slides. They even have a huge hampster wheel that fits 2 people. It was fun watching the kiddos run inside the wheel. They also have a play farming area and section to build blocks and even larger structures. 1st floor has the cafe and a huge dinosaur structure fir the kids to run up and down and explore. The id also a nice water sprinkler area for the kids to play in water. The provide child size aprons so our kids can kinda stay dry. We had a fantastic time. There is so much to do here. -highly reccomend

Huge museum with several floors to explore and a massive outdoor playground. When you enter they have a small cafe area to eat as well as a pay what you can option for those who may not be able to afford nearby restaurants or forgot to pack a lunch. The lower floor is for small children with a few play houses, water table type room and nursing space. The upper floors are better for older children, with the rooftop having some live animals like chicken, reptiles and fish. Outside is a massive playground with labels indicating what level of climbing experience is needed to navigate. Overall, most kids can explore the majority of it. There’s plenty of restrooms on each level and staff around to keep watch on things. They also have lockers as well as free bins to store things while exploring. Keep an eye on Groupon for deals on admission.

Great place for all! I love how much is tied to/about Wisconsin. Unfortunately, we only lasted an hour when I know we could’ve gotten so much more out of it. We went on a rainy weekend day and expected it to be busy, but didn’t expect so many unhinged parents of rude kids. Also, I thought the price of tickets was expensive given you have to pay for everybody, must be because they offer free/reduced tickets to so many populations so the rest of us are stuck making up the difference. The cafe was an interesting concept of pay what you can, but seemed sparse for options and was a mess. It would be nice to have more designated areas for snack breaks. Again, love the space and variety for kids to do. Would love to come back when it’s less busy and be able to explore the outdoor area.

We were in town from Minneapolis and planned our short vacation trip around this museum. We had visited once previously, in April. I LOVE this museum. Almost everything is made from reclaimed items and it's so cool. There are new things to see or do around every corner. The people who work here are SO cool and thoughtful and nice! I've never had a bad experience with anyone. They also have fun activities planned for kids during the day, too! My older son got to use squeeze bottles to melt frozen "hands" that had bugs inside! We ended up getting a membership because it's cost effective for our family. There's also reciprocity for over 200 children's museums around the country! We'll definitely be back again!
