STAY ELSEWHERE IF YOU WANT SERVICE!
I came to Madison, WI the day before doing a 100-mile bike ride, the Trek 100 on June 7 from nearby Waterloo, and chose the Hyatt Place because of its downtown location. All I wanted was a quiet room for a good night’s sleep.
When I made my reservation in early May, I requested a quiet room on a high floor away from the elevator and ice machine, and requested earlier-than-normal access to some kind of breakfast carbs, like toast or a bagel, because I had to leave the hotel early the following morning before their complementary breakfast was available. Reservations told me they could accommodate my requests. I called the hotel the day before my arrival, and they confirmed my requests would be accommodated. When I arrived at the hotel, at check-in I repeated my requests and was told they were taken care of. My assigned room was on the 9th floor (of a 10 story building), but opposite the ice machine. This was unacceptable especially after confirming my room preference request THREE separate times. The only other available room was on the second floor, with the prospect of street noise on a Friday night. Nothing else was available, so I had to wait. An hour to hour and a half later a room on the 7th floor that was away from the elevator and ice machine finally became available. This was the kind of room the Hyatt should have assigned me in the first place. However, waiting around for this new room eliminated a lot of my spare time and the advantage of getting to Madison early.
My other upset with the Hyatt’s lack of service was about getting something to eat early Saturday morning. Besides my earlier discussions about this, I spoke to three separate Hyatt people about this that Friday night, yet NO ONE spoke to or relayed the message to the person handling setting up breakfast Saturday morning. That guy was great, and tried to help me and another bike rider who soon appeared. But he said it was really too bad NO ONE had told him especially since he had seen the night before all three of the people I spoke to. There is a serious staff communication and management problem at this hotel.
The Hyatt’s service was awful. I didn’t ask for much and they under delivered on that!!! I will not stay there again, and recommend everyone stay elsewhere, and there are many other hotel choices available. The Hyatt is supposedly one of a handful of top-ranked 4 and 3 star hotels in Madison. But what I experienced deserves a...
Read moreSingle worst experience at a hotel I have ever had. I was in town for business and staying at the Hyatt. I had gone out with a group of people from work and returned back at the hotel around 11:30. There are two sets of sliding glass doors the first of which opened and the second set did not. I stood in front of the sensor trying to get the door to open and it would not so I slid the door open and walked in. The woman working the front desk stopped me and said she needed to see my i.d. or room key before she could let me go to my room even though I was wearing a badge around my neck from the conference I was attending which the hotel was hosting guests of! I handed her my i.d. and waited for her to look me up. She entered my information incorrectly and concluded that I was not a guest at the hotel and told me I needed to leave. I told her that I was a guest in room 206 to which she responded that I needed to leave and she was calling the police and was immediately on the phone with them. I left the hotel dumbfounded as to what was going on while the employee followed me down the street on the phone with the police leading them to me where I was subsequently arrested for trespassing at my own hotel! This caused me to spend a night in jail, as well as miss my work conferences the next morning. Countless hours of stress and a $450 ticket from the city of madison. I would highly recommend staying elsewhere such as the Hilton where other people in our party were staying, where employees never once harassed me coming in and out even though I was not a guest there. I HIGHLY recommend staying away from the HYATT at all costs and I will never patronize a hyatt...
Read moreTwo words UTTERLY DISAPPOINTING. I had booked this hotel months in advance assuming that it would be great given the Hyatt name but I was mistaken. Hyatt Place is supposed to be a budget hotel but at $300 a night that was questionable. I don't even know where to start. The rooms were tiny, the amenities were non-existent and cleanliness left a lot to be desired. To use the toilet you had to get into the shower first as the door scraped the toilet bowl; so much for design. Guests have to pay for everything - parking, shipping, water bottles and above all keep their rooms clean. It's been 2 years since COVID has been under control but the management here does not offer even basic house keeping. The trash cans in the room, common areas like the bathrooms (which needs a guest room key) and the areas near the elevators are overflowing and they are not cleared out on a regular basis even after requests. As for breakfast it was so bad that we chose not to even bother after our first day of stay. I do want to mention that the staff were friendly but clearly the management here is at fault for not caring about guests.
I question the other 4 and 5 star reviews here as this was certainly not our experience. I will never be staying at another Hyatt Place ever and if in Madison I recommend booking the Doubletree Inn or Hampton Inn; any other place but...
