We rented out the entire Mansion Hill Inn for 2 nights for our wedding, and it was absolutely phenomenal. It was a small wedding, and we were able to fit all family members into the 10 rooms. We had the ceremony and reception in the parlor. It's absolutely beautiful for photographs - great architectural details inside and outside. Nicole and all of the staff were a godsend in the run-up to the wedding, and day-of. We were able to focus on talking with our guests instead of minute details - the innkeepers handled on the details of vendors delivering things, setting up rooms, setting up and staffing the bar, etc. and were very kind and welcoming to us and our guests. All of our guests raved about how amazing the Inn, the innkeepers, and the weekend were.
One thing to note is that they do not have a dance floor, which was not a problem for us, as we opted for board games instead. They also mentioned kids are sometimes problematic because the furniture are antiques and any damage to them is expensive to fix. Again, for us, this was no problem, as we had no kids in attendance. Breakfast was great but light (croissants, coffee, tea, etc.). If you want something more substantial, there are a lot of restaurants nearby on the capitol square. It was a pretty hot few days, about 90 degrees, and the rooms were air conditioned and comfortable. We had originally planned to have the ceremony in the capitol building, but there was a protest on the square on our wedding day, which caused some last-minute shuffling of venues (which, again, Nicole handled wonderfully), and the protest was not audible in the hotel. We put the elderly guests on the ground floor so they did not have to walk up the staircase.
If you're considering having a wedding here, I absolutely recommend it. I also 1000% recommend renting the entire place out, though this can of course be hard to schedule. It makes the experience very private and comfortable. Try to reserve room 7 for yourself if you can! This would also be a great honeymoon or...
Read moreThis inn has been the best place I have ever experienced. My husband and I came across it on our wedding night two years ago and decided to celebrate our two year anniversary at it because it was such a memorable stay. The inn has amazing vintage, antique charm and characteristics. The architecture is beautifully preserved yet the bathrooms have been updated to modern standards with heated floors, amazing shower heads, and huge bathtubs (for select rooms only). Complimentary breakfast is provided with quality breads and toppings. The bar is also stocked with a variety of quality alcohol. This inn maintains the charm of its original design as much as possible while providing updated amenities as necessary.
The staff is incredibly friendly and go the extra mile to fulfill any needs you may have. John especially entertained my husband and I with wonderful conversations and suggestions for food and entertainment, and truly made our second stay here just as memorable as the first. He also assisted in our reservation to ensure we stayed here for our entire trip to Madison while also spending a few nights in the same room we stayed in two years ago.
Its location is just on the outskirts of downtown and away from the traffic while being a 10-minutes walk away from everything you need, and a shorter drive to everything else in Madison.
There are a limited number of rooms, but they seemed to have sound proofed everything (or everyone else staying here was super quiet!). The beds seem to be a queen size and the rooms may seem small to some people, but compared to your average hotel they are quite roomy! They have limited parking spots, but provide valet parking if you need to park on the side of the road.
If you’re looking for a place that has historical charm to it while also having modern bathroom luxuries, and knowing your stay will be fully satisfied by the staff, I highly recommend booking your next trip to...
Read moreIt's hard to imagine why the Madison Hill Inn hasn't been reviewed before. Located at 724 North Pinkney Street in Madison, Wisconsin, in the historic Big Bug Hill neighborhood, at the North Pinkney/East Gilman intersection in downtown Madison, on the ridge along Lake Mendota, it is described as Madison's most celebrated boutique hotel. And it has been around since 1856. It was the first residence on Big Bug Hill, which was Victorian Madison's most elegant neighborhood. And it remains one of four historic mansions still standing. This four-story German Romanesque Revival building covers 9,000 square feet. It features an oval shaped mahogany staircase and etched Venetian glass windows. It was converted to a boutique hotel in 1983 and extensively renovated in 2008. There are 10 rooms, all of which highlight the property's historic charm. The hotel's classic parlor has been preserved. The majestic bar was created for entertaining. Now a AAA 4-Diamond hotel, it features a concierge, fitness center and a complimentary European-style continental breakfast. My wife and I booked the Classic Suite 7, advertised as the "finest hotel room Madison has to offer." It includes a king-size bed, 32-inch LED TV, complimentary wi-fi, iron and ironing board, full size work desk, floor-to-ceiling windows, a private balcony, marble gas fireplace, wrought iron from the balconies to the buttresses, arched windows and a secret entrance behind the bookcase to the grand bathroom with a shower, whirlpool rub, elegant stone and marble vanities and state-of-the-art fixtures. And it is conveniently located, a block from Lake Mendota and a 14-minute walk from Capitol Square, the Wisconsin State Capitol and the University of...
