Office Furniture Warehouse - Madison — Attraction in Madison

It’s been about a month since I picked up my new desk chair from Office Furniture Warehouse. I wanted to give the chair a good test run before leaving feedback since I spend a lot of time at my desk.

I wanted my new chair to do what my old did not - offer good lumbar support & have a seat that wouldn’t feel less and less supportive the later it got in my day.

I had a little trouble finding OFW ( mostly bc GPS says you’ve arrived just up the hill from where OFW actually is so drive down the hill. They’re in a little strip of storefront/small warehouse spaces on the right.) so I arrived close to their end of day.

But Eric wasn’t bothered by this at all, answered all my questions, pulled down a few models for me to try & never rushed me. He showed me gently used chairs in the brands you know - Herman Miller, Haworth, Steelcase - and other options in new chairs.

I left with the floor model of their Smarti ST Ergonomic task chair, which Eric kindly loaded in my car. He didn’t have to do either of those things. There was plenty of inventory where I could have taken home a chair still in the box. But I moved recently, and just wanted one less thing to assemble, one less oversized cardboard box to get rid of. My apologies & thanks to whoever assembles their floor models.

So customer service is friendly, helpful, not pushy & knowledgeable about their products.

On to the chair. I’ve wavered back & forth about buying a Herman Miller, an X-chair or other “be-all-end-all” of chairs. I’m getting older & my body is less and less happy when I spend long hours in “budget” chairs from the big box office stores. I know these chairs are as good as their hype. But you can’t always find a local reseller that offers more than one model and I’m not paying $1000 for something I’ve never sat in because it may be a great chair but it may not be great for me.

But the Smarti does just what I was after. The fabric covered seat is supportive & means I can wear shorts (home office) and stick to or be chilled by bonded leather. The controls for adjusting height and whether you want to recline are easy to use, & the mesh back means I don’t get hot.

There’s a plastic support on the back side of the mesh that can be moved to where you need it. Simple, but effective. And it doesn’t move from where you put it despite the slide functionality. So you get to target where you need the extra support. But if you’ve had mesh-backed chairs, you already know they offer good support without the heft of a bulkier chair.

My only regret is that in switching to a mesh chair, my cats no longer have a thick back cushion where they can perch behind my head. But such is the lament of cat owners. The same chairs that offer such perching real estate eventually succumb to the end of all things - the cat’s murder mittens. My experience with Office Furniture Warehouse - Madison was outstanding.

I recently started working fully remote, so I've been searching for a good office chair. While on a trip to Costco, my girlfriend and I happened to notice this spot and decided to stop by: boy howdy were we in for a surprise. There were pre-assembled desks, chairs, and stands galore - it was an office furniture sanctuary, just what I was looking for. But the true treasure wasn't the furniture in stock, but rather the phenomenal customer service provided to us by Brett. Shortly after entering the building we were greeted with a warm welcome and smile from Brett (yes, we were wearing masks, but it was one of those smiles you can see in the eyes). Brett encouraged us to try out many of the chairs on display, but after describing what I was looking for he immediately knew the product for me. When I tried out the Danube All-Mesh Office Chair I felt relaxed, supported, and ergonomic - the trifecta. Brett put on an excellent demonstration of all the dynamic functionality of the chair - I didn't realize a single chair could move in so many dimensions!

I was impressed by how confident Brett was in his merchandise and market value. When we shared with him that we just noticed this place on our way with Costco, he actually encouraged us to wait to buy and still go look at competitors before deciding... My jaw dropped. We agreed and went to Costco and were utterly surprised that the trip completely validated Brett's points. Having done our due diligence, I felt great about the purchase. We quickly filled out the paperwork and Brett personally loaded the chair up into my car before wishing us farewell.

tl;dr: this place is great - the chair is perfect but the real gem is Brett. I will stop by again if I need to get a desk...

I never thought I would actually have fun purchasing office furniture, but Brett proved me wrong today! He is AWESOME! Before we went to OFW, we checked it out online, and I'll be honest--when I saw how many five star reviews Brett had, my skeptical brain kicked in and I assumed, oh, this must be one of those places that gives you a discount if you agree to leave a glowing review or something. But NOPE. I was 100% wrong. Brett is just a really kind, charismatic, and fun person to work with and that's why so many people are inspired to write great reviews. He doesn't feel like a salesmen at all. It's really apparent that he cares a LOT about you getting the equipment that's right for you rather than just trying to make a buck off you. He took the time to really get to know us and asked lots of questions so he could understand what we were looking for--and in the end, he wanted to make absolute sure we were happy with our purchases, always reminding us that we could think about it and come back. He also remembered every single person's name who came into the store that day. I was really impressed by that. I definitely wasn't expecting to find that level of warmth and care at an office furniture warehouse. In a world where personal experiences are hard to come by with so many things happening online, Brett's warm personality and passion for his job was incredibly refreshing. It made my day.
