U Frame It (West) — Attraction in Madison

Melissa Wiesneth and Cory Swadley, who own the two U Frame It stores on the West side and East side of Madison, are a very talented pair. I was discouraged by the framing options elsewhere in my years' long search for a special shadow box to display a large, unusual, three-dimensional piece of art. However, within minutes of my arrival at the Mineral Point Road store, Cory showed me framing material that would not only easily accommodate the piece but was also stunningly beautiful and quite unusual in profile. Without missing a beat, he then brought out a cream color, woven textured mat board for the interior lining -- sides and back. In less than 15 minutes, he pulled together an order for a shadow box way beyond anything I had hoped to find. Melissa and Cory constructed the frame, cut the lining pieces, inserted museum quality glass, and handed me a skillfully assembled, ready to hang, final product that, in my opinion, could easily be considered museum quality. It is absolutely stunning. I highly recommend their work. In addition, their store offers a very wide selection of framing materials in all kinds of colors, textures, and styles, including quite a few unusual options. Cory informed me that all of their frames are made of quality wood. (No MDF or other low quality materials.) I look forward to having Melissa and Cory frame other pieces of artwork...

Not a good experience at all. I walked in and a trainee was helping another customer. He acknowledged me, I sat down, I waited. 20 mins later, they finished up. As I got up to get helped, another customer came in, at which point the trainee said he'd go find someone in the back to help him. I asked if there was someone there all this time. A few people, yes. Why didn't he ask one of them to help me while I waited for 20 mins? No answer, no apology.

Anyways, moving on, he then called his boss to help. She was great and helpful, but then left me with him. He measured things, quoted me a price, and it sounded alright, so I agreed to it. Then he said, "oh wait, I made a small error," and said the new price was $100 more. That's not a "small error," and felt like a total bait-and-switch. Excellent experience from start to finish. I needed a custom frame for a panoramic puzzle our family completed during the pandemic. Melissa quoted several options in record time during my first visit. I returned with the puzzle and had a professionally framed piece the very next day!
