I witnessed extreme discriminatory actions towards a person with a disability while at this firehouse sub location. A man with a hearing impairment came into the store and explained he was deaf and requested that the cashier take down her mask so that he could understand her. The woman rudely stated that she could not hear him and he needed to speak up. The man again stated he was deaf and needed her to take down her mask while gesturing to his very obvious hearing aides. She again rudely asked him to speak up, at this point I stepped in and explain to her that he was deaf and needed to read her lips. She again very rudely stated it was company policy to keep masks on, which is understandable. I again said said he was deaf and asked if she could use paper or a phone to write or type out what she was saying so he could understand her. She said she could not, at this point the man left. I understand not being able to pull down a mask given the current health crisis, but there is no excuse to not work to find a solution to accommodate everyone regardless of ability. In this case I gave her two very simple solutions and she still refused to accommodate for a disability. I will not be returning to firehouse subs and expect that the company make the necessary changes so that this does not...
Read moreThis morning at about 10:35am I decided to try Firehouse Subs for the first time. I had just left from having my vehicle serviced, and left home without eating anything so I was starving. I checked the menu online beforehand so I knew what I wanted to order. I walked into your Madison, WI Mineral Point Road location and went up to the cashier. I asked her to move her mask down so I could read her lips since I am deaf. She shaked her head and said no. I pointed to my ears and said I need to read lips to communicate, and she still wouldn't. The woman standing next to me suggested to the cashier to get out her phone and type out what to say. She still wouldn't so I said I'm leaving so I left. This is outright discrimination! We are a year into the pandemic, and every person I've encountered in an establishment have been very helpful and accommodating in some way. I went a few doors down to Rocky Rococo to have pizza instead, they were very helpful and accommodating to my needs. I will never step foot in a Firehouse Subs again and this has left me in a foul mood for the rest of the day. I will tell my friends and family about the experience I had. And don't tell me to fill out an online form. You have all the information you...
Read moreThis was absolutely the WORST experience I have had at a Firehouse Subs. I came in with my family to grab 2 sandwiches, simple enough, right? WRONG. I waited over 25 minutes for those sandwiches! During that time, the employees were talking away with each other in SPANISH the whole time, barely even paying attention to orders. They just took their sweet time, like they had NO sense of urgency whatsoever. It wasn’t even busy! They finally made my sandwiches, and instead of calling out my name or saying my order was ready, they just put it off to the side.
I had to go up and ask, “Is this my order?” and the girl working there just looked at me, rolled her eyes, and practically THREW the bag at me with attitude. If that wasn't enough, an older lady in line next to me told me she could understand some Spanish and that the employees were talking ABOUT me! Something negative too. I’m sorry, but that is just rude, unprofessional, and unacceptable.
I won’t be coming back to this location, and honestly I feel like something needs to be done about this rude and lazy staff. Train your employees to be respectful, work...
