I live an hour away in northern New Hampshire. I’ve converted from atheism in the past few years. I’ve taken a journey through all denominations of Christianity and finally have chosen Catholicism. In my quest of rigorous study and truth seeking, I have learned many things that disturbed me about how most Catholic churches operate today. It has been very difficult to find a church that I trust in. I have even been to some “Catholic masses“ where there is no reverence for the Eucharist. I once attended a mass where the body of Christ was dropped on the floor and then tossed casually onto the altar to be dealt with later like piece of paper to be thrown in the trash can. I literally want to cry thinking about it. Needless to say I’ve lost faith and trust in many churches and my biggest challenge has been to find one that I can call home. St. Joseph’s Cathedral feels like it might be that place for me. So much so that I am willing to commute two hours every Sunday just to attend services. I pray the Holy Spirit continues to bless this church. I fear we are running out of sanctuary’s and true houses...
Read moreGod has blessed this Cathedral Always an uplifting mass. I am one of the lifetime parishioners Even when I’ve lived far away. I come back. So many clergy. Thank you God for all who have served in this parish. And of course all the states Bishops through the years. They have a new gift shop it’s in the rectory next to the chapel and the cathedral. We are currently in the Christmas holiday season and it’s stunning. You have Christmas gift trees, where you can pick up an angel buy a gift for the child. Leave it at the cathedral under the tree unwrapped with the tag. The choir in the cathedral is awesome. If you’ve never been, you should come if only to enter the doors of the cathedral and see the wondrous display. Feel the presence of God, kneel and pray by the altar. Whether you are Catholic or not, this place is blessed, all...
Read moreVery beautiful church. The pastor did a fine job with mass. However, there where no bibles in the seats and almost all of the singing was done in Latin. One song is acceptable but I found that with each additional song in Latin it felt off putting. In this day and age, and the fact that we are Americans who speak English not Latin gave me pause. I want to sing to God and give him reverence when I’m at mass but I cannot do that if I don’t know how to read the words, don’t know how to pronounce them, and most importantly don’t know their meaning or what I’m singing. Latin is an old traditional language of the Catholic Church but it’s outdated in our churches today. I feel this church is loosing a lot of the masses because of this. Very sad. I will not...
