Stayed here for one night, I think they still have some kinks to work out with the service.
The hotel itself is nice. Brand new, the rooms have tons of outlets and USB ports. The bathrooms are large and modern, nice touch of having water switch for the shower at the entrance so you don't have to get IN the shower to turn it on.
One of the reasons I picked this hotel is because the site said complementary charging for electric vehicles. Great I thought. We get there, and there's has vehicles in both charging spots. Ugh, ok whatever. As we were getting stuff out of our car one of them left so I moved over. Couldn't get the charger to work. When we checked in, I asked the woman checking us in if there were any tricks to using the charger or if they had instructions and she responded 'We only opened up about a week ago and none of us drive electric vehicles so we don't know how any of that works.' You would think a hotel that talks about free charging would have some kind of instructional for if their customers were having trouble. We tried again after checking in, swiping our key card at the charger, and still no luck.
As for the room, there was literally 2 Kleenex left in the box with no replacement, and the toilet paper wasn't full, again with no spare roll in the room. We also found 2 rather large screws in the middle of the floor, we left them on the counter. The room also had the sleeper couch in it, which was perfect for us since we were traveling as a group of 3... But there was no bedding or extra pillows in the closet, as is usually standard, to use with the couch. It was fortunate that one of us had brought their own pillow so we were able to share some from the bed. Another odd but, in our room, the fridge door opened from the right not the left... Normally not an issue but since it was against the wall it was awkward.
With so that said, would I stay here...
Read moreAll of the other reviewers essentially agree with my experience staying a week on business. But I wish to correct a few outliers who came away with negative impressions. Perhaps my nose is not as sensitive as the person who smelled air freshener being added to the room ventilation, but I noticed nothing amiss. In fact, my impression is that this is not even how HVAC units work in hotels anyway. (True, my room's unit dripped water on the carpet underneath it, even after the head of engineering assured me it was fixed. However, that caused no inconvenience whatsoever. In the long run it might affect their carpet.) It is true that walking to some of the wonderful restaurants around the corner does require you to pass Veterans Memorial Park. The park is indeed a refuge and gathering place for the homeless and many who consume marijuana or more dangerous substances. The dark figures you pass in the evening may seem a threat. But these folks keep to themselves, are supportive of one another, and I think they are more to be pitied than feared. The motel should not be blamed for our social problems. My main complaint was that the refrigerator in my room was noisy and disturbed my sleep one night. (I am a light sleeper.) After an attempted repair failed to improve it the following night, the staff obligingly swapped refrigerators for me. The new one made some noise, but not nearly as much, so I slept well. The complimentary continental breakfast was adequate but not memorable -- but who has time for that if you are there on business? Overall, this is a modern, well-designed motel with pleasant and helpful staff. Having stayed in another Marriott across town that might have made a better kennel, I can truly appreciate the Residence Inn Downtown, despite a...
Read moreThere is a reason this is a Category 2 hotel, despite being brand new and just recently opening.
First and foremost, it’s situated directly on a main road and is unbearably noisy. It felt and sounded as though the cars and motorcycles were driving directly through my room as I tried to sleep. This was nonstop throughout the day/night, and to the point where I was doing a virtual meeting in my room and the team asked if I was outside while on the call because the traffic was so noticeably loud. There is a side of the hotel that is not facing a main road, but is facing a populated area with many bars playing loud music into the night.
The hotel has security and only allows guests to enter/exit through one entrance (which was inconvenient in general, but especially when loading/unloading the car) as well requiring that you must use your key every time to access the elevator. I suppose this is done to make you feel safer but instead just highlighted to me the unsafe conditions of the immediate surrounding area.
The parking is extremely limited to one very small surface lot. On both Friday and Saturday I was unable to find a spot in the designated lot and had to park my car on the street - among scattered & broken glass that was clearly from other car windows being broken into during the previous nights.
This may be ok for a weekend stay, depending on your tolerance for noise, but I would not recommend for business traveler or...
