Eddie Tam (1899 - 1966) was the chairman of the board of supervisors for the County of Maui when Hawaii was a territory.
The county-run complex built in the 1960's is located in Makawao on Makani Road, and features a 2-level building that houses a basketball gym, community event hall, county offices, and a police substation. The attached park sports picnic pavilions, 2 tennis courts, and baseball fields.
EVENT HALL: Situated below the gym, max room capacity is 380. Amenities include fold & roll tables and lightweight aluminum folding chairs, a small wooden stage, and good sized kitchen. There is no climate control; not a huge deal as Makawao is a fairly cool town but Maui does have its humid days. Huge glass windows let in lots of natural light. The walls are discolored and marked with old tape residue, staples, and other decoration blemishes from years past. Restrooms are conveniently located on the same level, and were clean. Parking can be a problem if the hall and gym are both in use as they share the same 39-stall lot. More parking is available near the ball fields but can be quite a walk for some.

Read moreThis is an excellent park to run and walk in and around. There is a new map they put up by the restrooms that marks out the different distances of all the loops around the grass fields and baseball fields. There is a paved path that goes around, up and down the sides of the park. It is clean and well groomed. There is a Boys and Girls Club that hosts a preschool, and Kalama Middle School also borders the park. There is also a basketball court, and tennis courts too. The police sub station is up at the top with a second set of restrooms attached to a big gym. A great...
