i found this place by looking on google maps bc we were in the area for the maui gold pineapple tour. itâs in a town called makawao, off their âmain streetâ where other cafes and shops are located. when you walk inside this place you can smell the intense sugary aroma. i could tell it was one of those types of cookies where itâs super sweet (so much so that you can almost taste the sugar granules). their most popular cookie is an 8 oz (half pound!) cookie called âhalf bakedâ. it was shaped like a giant scone bc itâs stuffed with an oreo cookie and reeseâs peanut butter cup. i would consider it stoner food or something that a surfer or a marathoner would eat bc it was so over the top. all the other cookies were 6 oz so i opted for the lilikoi white chocolate. i shared it with my husband and ate in slowly over the course of a couple days, breaking off bits and pieces to have with my unsweetened tea. i liked the tartness of the lilikoi which contrasted well with the intense sweetness of cookie. i think this this type of cookie is just too sweet for me. i wouldnât consider it a gourmet cookie. itâs more like a novelty cookie. it costed $6.75 which is quite high. even the most popular cookie in nyc (levain) doesnât cost as much but then everything in maui is super expensive. if you like super sugary cookies, they have a good variety of flavors so i would go with something that you generally like to eat. they also carry other local and artisanal snacks in the...
Read moreMe & my wife & our 2 daughters were in Maui a few weeks ago & on our last day we made the trek up HaleakalÄ but stopped in Makawao to look for some refreshments. We didnât know anything about The Maui Cookie Lady as we parked on the street trying to decide what/where we wanted to get some snacks. While we were discussing we saw these boxes with words about âcookies are saladâ and we were all intrigued so we walked in and holy smokes what a cool place!! My girls LOVED the Fairy tree house and what a cool little space!!!!! Both girls chose the Nutter Butterfinger cookie & then we were all out and back in the jeep. They were both kind enough to share bites of their cookies with us and man let tell you what - WOW!! Iâve never tasted a cookie quite like that!! If it werenât for our tight schedule with HaleakalÄ we would have driven back there & both got our own cookies!! Long story short; the MINUTE I got home I searched and found your retail location website & ordered over a half dozen different cookies!! Needless to say we will be lifetime customers & DEFINITELY will be spending more time in Makawao on our next...
Read moreDo yourselves a favor & splurge on a few (or more) of these cookies - you'll be happy you did! Every year that we're in Maui we HAVE to stop by to see the Maui Cookie Lady herself, Mitzi, & get some of her delicious cookies â also make sure you stock up, they store perfectly in the freezer. I remember the first time we tried them, they had a little shop set up in the Maui Pack & Ship in Kahului - we were blown away then & we're blown away now, several years later. The new shop in Makawao fits the historic town beautifully. You walk in & you're instantly whisked away to a dreamland filled with sweet treats - the decor, the sights, sounds & smells! Once you bite into the cookies, you'll be asking yourself why you didn't buy more! Our favorite is Da Half Baked & anything with peanut butter, but we love trying her seasonal flavors. The Maui Cookie Lady is a part of our family's annual Maui trip & we look forward to it every single time - Mitzi is a doll, the staff is great, the shop looks awesome & the cookies....oh,...
