Craved some breakfast on my last day in Maui. Found Freshies on Google and drove out that way. It was a hot day, but the courtyard outside seating was nicely shaded by a giant tree. I ended up eating at the bar since I was alone, all the tables were 4 seaters at least and there was a long line. You wait in line to order and prepay and get a number and drink and they bring food out to you. Apparently the daily specials like eggs benedict will run out unless you come first thing in the morning. I ordered the Paniolo (Hawaiian Cowboy) breakfast with Portuguese sausage, with English muffin and greens. The eggs were perfectly cooked over easy. The Portuguese sausage is very similar to polish sausage, but slightly firmer. The English muffin was toasted perfectly to a crisp and pre buttered. They give you a side of strawberry jam. It had real strawberries in it. Some of the greens had become dark and mushy so I picked those off. Food came out quickly and all the wait staff were super nice. Would recommend.

So good!! My sister was just looking for vegetarian restaurants and we’d never been here before on our many trips to Maui. Our party is 1 vegan, 1 vegetarian, and 3 omnivores, and everyone loved it! The place is pretty small, and we showed up at 11:50 for lunch and there were no tables available for a party 5, but Shannon at the register helped find us a place. I was pleasantly surprised at how fast the food came out even though they were quite busy! And it was all delicious and large portions. My mom got a half portion of the soba noodle salad with tofu, and it was still a ton of food. The vegan chili (can get cheese on top or not) was really good, and they crumbled the tofu so it is pretty indistinguishable from a “meat” chili. The Arnold Palmer was delicious, and they offered to make it with hibiscus tea instead of the default black iced tea. The rest of the party ordered Makawao melts and 1 tuna melt. We’re definitely going to be back! I really want to try the vegan options for breakfast.

Two major issues:

  1. They added 15% to my bill because their was 6 of us - even though we seat ourselves and do not have a formal waitress. You order and pay at the register. The hostess didn't tell me, she quickly flipped the screen around for the 'tip' page so had I not caught it, I would've double tipped. They also add a 4.7% kitchen fee, which is not uncommon, albeit high.
  2. When serving my wife a plate appeared to break and the hot food and broken plate dumped into her lap. It was a scene out of a movie. She was wearing white linen pants and had red food all over her. We were staying on the north side so we were over an hour away. The food runners cleaned up the mess, and my wife did her best to clean her pants, but nobody came out and said anything to us. The young food runner said that she was sorry, but this is a big deal. Her expensive pants were ruined, we now needed to drive back to the resort and change. Very unprofessional. There was an older hostess, and older adults in the back. Nobody said anything. We would have been happy had someone just came out and said that they were really sorry. with all of that said, the food was okay. If you're in town, try the other spots. Thier are quite a few to...
