The amount of local historical information packed into such a small space is awesome however, the staff lady who seems to always be there is extremely rude and makes us feel like she does not want anyone visiting. The first time we came, we wanted to see more on Mebane's history as newcomers to the area. We were met with 'short', cold answers when asking her questions and got the feeling we were unwelcome as soon as we entered the door. Another time we walked in to inquire about where & how to get in to the train display as it was very confusing on how to enter. She was there again and her demeanor was not any more helpful or any more pleasant than the previous time. She snapped back 'there are signs' and we just left because we knew she is not a nice person to be around. It's sad because we love Mebane and anyone visiting this museum will get the wrong impression of our friendly town if they have to encounter this...
Read moreWe came here to check out the train display. My children loved looking at all of trains going around and pushing the buttons to make things move! There are several different rooms full of trains to look at. There's a large tree with tracks going up and down in it! There's even a train going around the ceiling! Right outside of the train museum, there was a nice playground that was fenced in! My only complaint is that there's no sign directly in front of the building and where we parked, we couldn't see the train signs. We went into the historical museum and when asked about the trains, we were rudely informed that we were in the wrong area. I had never heard of this historical museum before, but after encountering this rude staff member, I can see why people might not want to recommend...
Read moreI had a great time at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. There is a lot of attention for children, this is a great outing for families and it is wonderful that access is free. The Mebane Historical Museum will let the Train display know how much you liked it. We are actually two separate organizations but share the same building. The Mebane Historical Museum is open Tuesdays - Saturdays and the trains, as you mentioned, are only open the second Saturday of the month. Our exhibits are geared towards readers so it may be your kids aren't old enough for our galleries, yet. We'll be here...
