Nice historical area where you can learn about the history of the southwest and how New Mexico became part of the US. The plaza is part of a Historic District and is a national historic landmark. It's a nice spot to sit and relax. Billy the Kid was put on trial and sentenced to hang at the old County Courthouse which is now the corner gift shop. The Historic District is filled with tourist shops that includes a book store, chocolate shop, pecan store, and other specialty shops. There are many restaurants and a couple of wineries. Love the quaint architecture of the area. The Basilica of San Albino is across from the plaza and has been on existence since 1851.

Where are the amenities in this area? This entire mesilla area has no shaded parking for travelers with dogs, no public restrooms (while many of the businesses dont have restrooms either), the handicapped parking (full) is located on the only curb without a ramp, and the only drinking fountain in the entire embarrassment is turned off. This is the middle of the desert, 100+ degrees, and Mesilla can't provide any tap water for the tourists to drink? The staff at the big church are also incredible ungodly. As a full-time traveler since 2014, i can confidently say, its not worth going out of your way to visit this area.

Mesilla Plaza is the center point of the old and historic town of Mesilla located next to Las Cruces, New Mexico. Mesilla is known for the Spanish style architecture of its buildings. The plaza is located right across from the Basilica of San Albino and is surrounded by numerous boutique shops and restaurants. Mesilla isn't very big, so you can definitely see the whole historic area in a short amount of time.

The plaza is somewhat plain, but it is highlighted by a gazebo displaying the US and Mexico flags, as well as benches to sit on to take in the sights. While the plaza isn't worth seeing specifically, it is one of the reasons why Mesilla is...
