Everything really IS better in Metter!

Its quaint Welcome Center, just off I-16, is a restored commissary that served lumber workers in the 1930s.

Hands down, it is our very favorite rest stop in SOUEGA and a common choice for visitors headed to Cumberland Island by way of Atlanta.

It’s the complete opposite of, say……a Buc-ees experience. And, we like it that way!

Next time you pass through, be sure to sit on the porch for a spell.

If you’re traveling with children, it’s a great place for lunch or to let them stretch their legs. Its restrooms are clean, the staff is friendly, AND you can choose from an array of locally-grown products and merchandise (like pecans, cheese straws, local cookbooks, and more).

Welcome Center hours have been limited in recent years, so you do have to plan your travel accordingly.

Be sure to sign the guest book when you’re there — and remember, feeding bread to ducks can be unhealthy and harmful to the environment. Take along some cracked corn, oats, rice, birdseed, chopped lettuce, or sliced...

We stopped at the Metter Welcome Center in Georgia during a road trip, and it was such a delightful experience! The woman working there was incredibly sweet and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The bathrooms were spotless—probably the cleanest we’ve seen on the road, which was such a relief.

To top it off, our greyhound, Wendy, was even allowed to come inside with us as we explored the center. It’s rare to find such pet-friendly places, and it really made our visit extra special. The center itself was well-maintained, and the hospitality was above and beyond. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re traveling...

Can't say enough about how welcoming this center is to their visitors. Walking up to the porch that overlooks a beautiful pond filled with birds and wildlife says it all. You could rest here for days because of how comforting the whole place makes you feel. The ladies who work here are the sweetest and most helpful! They even sell Georgia Grown products you can purchase to take back to your loved ones. I purchased the Strawberry Lemonade Jam ! 😋 The ladies even let me take their photo SO I could remember Metter even better. Great places to eat close by off this Interstate 16...
