Okay, if you purchase a Groupon for this, it's an incredible deal. So be aware that they do so these tickets on Groupon. When you get there, the GPS will guide you to a building near the water's edge. You can either Park in the parking garage, or you can valet park at the Marriott right there next to the dock where the jet boat is. That's what I did. After that, you need to go down and walk the entire length of the dock to get to the building that houses ticket sales for the jet boat and for other sightseeing water businesses in the area. You'll need to do this, because they have to verify your Groupon and then put a wristband on every person that goes on the jet boat.
I went with my nine-year-old son and my five-year-old daughter. My nine-year-old son held on for dear life, and he's done this before with the thriller speed boat which they compete with. The Thriller boat ride is much further away, it's located in the Bayside Marina. My five-year-old, she's the Daredevil of my children, loved it!
So here's the nitty-gritty, the captain of the boat is a very laid back and is a very knowledgeable captain. He's very friendly and approachable. They have life vests there if you'd like to wear one, if you bring a child, they have to wear one per coast guard regulations. Now what separates this jet boat from the Thriller boat, is that this boat is literally like a giant jet ski on steroids. It has a v Hall, which allows it to go at a fast speed and it actually does 180 turns in the water. Meaning that the captain will suddenly give a signal, letting everyone to hold on very tightly, and then turn the boat aggressively so that the hull is facing the opposite direction and the boat pretty much stalls. While in the midst of doing this, you feel some decent G forces and you do get sprayed with water. They have a sign that says that you will get wet on this ride, but they also have a sign that you will get wet at SeaWorld in Orlando, and sometimes you don't get wet. But with this place, it says it's get your going to get wet, it's not an "if", so do please realize that you will get drenched. So I would definitely wear a poncho if possible, because you will get wet no matter what part of the boat you're riding.
We saw the sign, but none of the crew actually told us that we were going to get drenched. To their defense, we arrived late, literally less than 5 minutes before they went out. So they may have told the people there waiting. But we didn't hear it. If I had known that, I would have brought a change of clothes for my children. But we had to go home right afterwards anyway, but I can't imagine walking around the area drenched like that, without a new change of clothes.
I remember when I did the Thriller boat ride oh, and I did that at least twice in the past three years, that bill was not capable of doing the tricks that this jet boat does. And that's because the Thriller boat is dual Hull structure boat. Sort of like a catamaran. So while it goes very fast, it cannot do one eighties in the water like this amazing jet boat does.
The prices on Groupon cannot be beat. The fun factor is without a doubt definitely there. It's worth every bit of money you spent. Groupon or no Groupon. Please remember to tip your captain when you get off, he takes a vested interest in each and every passenger. You don't see that a lot in South Florida any more.
If you notice a black jet boat next to the yellow one you're getting into, that's a new boat that they're going to put into service soon. Supposedly it has lots of gadgets and goes faster and does even more extreme tricks, so get ready and stay tuned! Jet boat Miami gets my five stars. Just remember the change of clothes, because you will get wet no matter...
Read morethe one star is because there is no option of lower. we have scheduled to ride on the banana boat and we scheduled at 2:00 o'clock and arrived 1:30 because they ask you to arrive quite a few time before you are scheduled for riding, but they actually kept us waiting till about an hour later till like 3:00 o'clock saying every five minutes that the captain is almost here which turned out to be a lie since the captain for the banana boat is the same captain for the jet boat which has been scheduled to ride at 2:00 o'clock as well. bottom line we were wasting around 2 hours for a 20 minute ride which i should take tops an hour at most like in other places. frustrating............... after having spend a nice amount of time there which left us no time to travel to other fun places, we decided to join the jet boat ride which was scheduled for 4:30 and we went to the office to purchase a boarding pass which they had to give us for a little cheaper then the usual amount since they have the bundle spacial and we went already banana boating at this place, so we paid thru credit card and the chip on the card didn't work for some reason (which did work all other places we went before and after and is still working) so that lady taking care of us said, no problem lets swipe the card that should work, in an instinct the other employee or owner i guess jump out of her chair and started talking in Spanish so we cant under stand but that much i understood that swiping the card will cost the company a different amount of surcharge and she shouldn't do it. the lady taking care of us was all confused not knowing what to tell us since she already agreed to swipe the card besides the point that no other places would act so cheap (besides by the law since they do accept credit card they have to accept it in any format, swiping or by chip) didn't know how to proceed till the others there came up with this trick. she swiped the card and asked me for a pin (which happens only if you select after swiping that this is a debit card) since i had no pin they told me i have to come up with a different payment method. then i explained to her that you are probably selecting the debit option and you should select the credit cart option she tried to fool me this way like 3-4 times till she was lying to me (i guess she was scared from that lady breathing over her neck) that she isn't selecting anything it just popes up (which i never had this issue with a card - which i have quite a bit experience in that field - that it should pop up asking for a pin without asking you before which type of card it is). then she was saying that she is going to show that it popped up automatically but with no little respect she quickly selected an option before showing me that, you see it is asking for a pin. this happened 2-3 times as well. with no patience to argue any further and with a lot of frustration and being disrespected, we salved the problem with a different payment method which i really had intention not do pay that way for good reasons....
i wouldn't recommend them, a lot of frustration involved thought you should...
Read moreMy post may be deleted but am still writing this post. I will repost again even if it gets deleted. Our worst experience ever. The staffs were outright rude to us and they were totally supremacist. This what happened to us. We were supposed to reach this place directly from key west on a busy Sunday morning for our one day trip to Miami. Our boat ride was at 11AM. Unfortunately we were so stuck in traffic until 9AM. So we called them up and informed about our unfortunate situation for which they guaranteed us a spot for 1.15PM ride the same day. So we proceeded and reached there exactly at 11AM on time for our boat ride. We were 4 Adults and 1 kid in total. One of us had went on to park the car in a place which is not so close and one of us had run to there office to check in. My friend and I with the kid were standing in the deck at 11.05AM and the boat had left already. Since we were guaranteed our next ride(over the call) we were just standing there on the deck that’s when we happen to see one of the staff crossed the deck and I politely tried to explain our situation. But she just ignored that I was there and proceeded To walk. In my dis belief I again said ‘excuse me’ for which she started to yell at us in front everyone there for disturbing her and she went back to her office. I was shell shocked and followed her to her office. Again politely asked her about the situation and she again started to yell at us saying we were lying and we weren’t there at the deck at all. While we were still talking to her and trying to explain the situation and about the phone call she just left the place. There was another staff to whom we asked about the information provided on call and she completely denied that any of the staffs there spoke to us on call and she gave us contradicting informations from the call. Over the call we were told that we will be provided with next boat ride on the same day without any extra charges. But when we were there in person the other staff had said that we will have to pay $12 per person extra to ride that boat or else we can ride the next day 11AM ride for free.(They clearly were trying take advantage of our situation there because they knew that we were leaving Miami the same day) Also they had mentioned that the 11AM was an early bird offer which is why we were allowed to use the group-on voucher. But never in their site or in the Groupon voucher had mentioned about this so called early bird offer. While we were still talking to this staff, she continued to talk the rest of the people and the first staff was no where to be seen. We were completely ignored and was not answered for any of our questions. They also did not take responsibility for the information provided over the call due to which we were forced to leave the place. Was totally disappointed and would never ever suggest this place to anyone. I dread visiting Miami again. I have been to various places in the US but have never met people who were so rude...
