North Shore Open Space Park was originally established in the 1950s when the city purchased and demolished a series of dilapidated villas on the site. It is one of Miami's largest parks, and it runs from 78th Street to 87th Terrace. Over the years, the 28 acre site was left to nature. In 2017 the city approved a 6 million dollar renovation of the park with Calvin, Giordarno & Associates as the project manager and West 8 heading the re-design. The renovation strived to preserve the parks plants, including large palm trees and sea grapes and the parks natural dune ecosystem which protects the park from rising sea levels. The goal was to improve the beauty and functionality of the park. Today you can enjoy enjoy beach access with lifeguards on duty and plenty of room to spread out as you soak up the sun. North Shore Open Space Park also has a outdoor showers, restroom, dog park, picnic tables and grills, sand volley ball court, three pavilions for picnics with grills which can be rented, swings and a play area, and trails with an outdoor fitness challenge course with self-powered workout stations. Parking can be found in the municipal lot across the street on 83rd street and along Harding Ave. I really enjoyed walking the trails in the the park and it is a lot quieter than nearby South Beach which you can reach via an paved 8 mile bike trail.

South Pointe Pier is the terminus of a 8 mile paved walking & bicycle path beginning at 79th Street in Miami Beach (off Collins Ave, only a few blocks from the tragic condo collapse in Surfside). It's new, it's beautiful, and if you love people watching it's an absolute delight. Moreover, when riding along this path, you get to see all the activities along the emerald green ocean, and glimpse of luxury beach living too. The back side of the famous Fountainbleau Hotel is stunning. A bit further north are some terrific examples of art deco architecture. The police and park rangers were out in force today giving warnings to people on ebikes. A second warning comes with a ticket. At 7th street and at 12th street you can rent a Citibike if you don'thave your own it costs $18 for 4 hours. There's a number of playgrounds for young kids, and sand volleyball courts for adults. Or, you can lift weights if that's your thing. Even though it was pretty busy this afternoon, the ride time was less than one hour each way. It was a perfect breezy day. Even at $4.00 a gallon for gas, it's worth the drive to get there. We patked at 83rd St, three hours for $3.35.

I was so excited to learn the dog park opened back up after being under construction for almost a year. Walking in, I was so disappointed. There is hardly any grass for the dogs as it’s all gravel and rocks which is bad for their paws, and they eat it which makes them sick. All the benches for people to sit were removed except for 2, so people were literally sitting on the ground, and the water fountains don’t work. We’re in Miami where it’s super hot and the pups need to stay hydrated. I returned 3 days later hoping at least the water fountains were working, but no. Waterways in Aventura has the most gorgeous dog park I’ve see. Big open space, all grass and tons of fountains and places to sit. I wouldn’t recommend this for ur furry friend. Unless of course they put some grass, benches and fountains. It looked better before they did this renovation, if you would even call it that. Here are some pics. The gravel is this park, the beautiful grass is the park in Aventura. I suggest we rename this dog park to Gravel Park since it fits perfectly. Very disappointing

This is a huge fenced in area of grass and trees along the beach. Loads of shady tree areas and BBQs and picnic tables. Multiple access points to the beach. A nice covered shady playground area. Fenced in dog park so little dog poo (which is more than can be said for other parks in the area!!). Lost a star as there seemed to be a few ?homeless people sleeping on the picnic benches when we visited (probably trying to get out the scorching sun, poor people!) and some suspicious activities going on between ladies hanging around on some benches and being "chatted to" by men...? A rare proper park in the area with so much grass and picnic area, slightly let down by the dodgy people but still definitely recommend.

I love the park, the beach, the BBQ's, the bike trail, dog parks, showers and bathrooms (although they lock them up at sundown), it has nice pavilions to throw parties, and picnic tables, a kids play ground, workout equipment along a jogging path, ample parking, and it is the most family friendly beach in Dade county! We love this beach and area! There is also a free trolley might be electric or fuel efficient because it is slow to give you a tour of the North Shore area of Miami Beach! The 24 hour public L bus goes directly to this area for a small fee. Easy to get there, easy to park, also has citibank bicycle rentals every few blocks! It's awesome we love it!
