This free museum has the Wright Brothers “B” Flyer and is operated by volunteers. This is a later version that was produced to hold 2 people. They are only open to the public on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9:00am to 12:30pm. This is a short window of opportunity, so plan ahead.
They actually have a total of 3 flyers in that small hangar along with 2 Model T Fords. One of the Flyers was actually from the movie ‘The Winds of Kitty Hawk’. There is one called the Brown Bird which first flew in 1981. The last one is the White Bird which had its first flight in 2022. This is a living museum, so expect a little dust or grime around. Though they haven’t gotten permission to take customers up on flights (in the works), they will let you sit in the Brown Bird. You can get a feel for what it must have been like and get your picture taken as well.
They also have a small store here, but if you don’t purchase anything, then I ask that you leave a donation for them. They have a very unique pen that turns into a small plane which I'm definitely going to get in my son. They also have a passport stamp, which you can get for the Dayton Aviation...
Read moreWhat a fantastic place! My wife and I expected yet another Wright Brothers museum, but instead got this nerdy-fun interactive experience with experimental aircraft designers, pilots, and enthusiasts. They have a museum, but it's more than that. They have built two Wright 'B' Flyers are "look alike" experimental aircraft, designed to look like the original Wright 'B' Flyer but with modern parts and systems so they are safer to fly (they also take passengers up for flights...though we're not sure how or when they do that).
They have two aircraft: one that is FAA approved for flight, and the other is still being worked on. They let us climb up into the cockpit and experience what it's like/take some photos. All-in-all a wonderful experience and just the kind of place you'd want to explore in Dayton, Ohio... I feel like it's true to the spirit of the Wright Brothers' experimentation and flying in a way you can't get from...
Read moreI was out this way with my daughter 2day because we had an appointment so I decided 2 take her here. There was a special group event here but a nice older man had let us look around and said we could take as many pictures as we wanted. We had saw an airplane that looked like the 1911 model, an old fashion car from that era, pictures of the airplanes and Orville and Wilbur Wright. They also have a Wright Shop. As we were going out the same friendly man told us about the...
