Visiting Ichimura Miami Japan Garden was a mixed experience. While the garden has the potential to be a serene oasis in the heart of Miami, it was clear that it needs significant maintenance and landscaping attention.
Upon entering, the once beautiful paths and traditional Japanese elements appeared neglected. The koi ponds, which should have been a highlight, were murky, and the stone lanterns were covered in grime. The wooden bridges, instead of adding charm, looked worn and in need of repair.
The tea garden, which should be a peaceful retreat, felt overgrown and untended. The water features, rather than providing a soothing ambiance, were clogged and stagnant. This neglect detracted from what could have been a beautiful, contemplative space.
The plant species, including the bonsai trees, were not in the best shape. Many plants seemed untrimmed and uncared for, reflecting a lack of regular maintenance. The staff, though knowledgeable, seemed unable to keep up with the garden's needs.
The cultural events and workshops still hold potential. During my visit, I participated in a calligraphy workshop, which was a highlight despite the garden's overall condition. This aspect of the garden remains a valuable opportunity to learn about Japanese culture.
Overall, Ichimura Miami Japan Garden has the potential to be a peaceful retreat and a cultural gem in Miami, but it currently suffers from neglect. With proper maintenance and care, it could regain its beauty and provide a truly enriching experience. Until then, visitors might find the garden's rundown state...
Read moreI wonder constantly if I simply walked through the wrong entrance. This garden was not what we expected that's for sure, it was quite peaceful, and a nice spot to sit and just breath. I was pretty excited to learn about Japanese culture and see some beautiful greenery. I guess we shouldn't have gone in the middle of January. Maybe I'll revisit in the spring, when the garden has been tended too and all. Loved the area, and the day was perfectly breezy and cloudy, so walking wasn't...
