Short version: I had the most bizarre experience, tried contacting Bishops 4 different times with no response, and now I'm out $85 and need to get my hair cut again.
Long version: I have long hair that goes to my lower back. I'm new to Minneapolis and needed a trim, and this place has good reviews, so I tried it. I did the online booking option where you don't pick a specific hairdresser. When one was assigned to me, I looked her up on the Google reviews, and she had good reviews, so I thought all would be well. I've had long hair for about 10 years now. I've had my hair cut in NC, FL, ME, and even Germany. Never have I had an experience like this. Not a single time did it take longer than 30-40 minutes for a trim, and I always walked away with a clearly fresh cut. I did not want to leave a bad review because I acknowledge that not every hairdresser is good at every hairstyle, which is why I tried contacting Bishops 4 different times to settle this matter. First, this trim took over an hour to do. I was flabbergasted. Then, the woman made me stand up as she tried to take 2 inches off my hair. Never have I ever had to stand up to get 2 inches taken off. As she was trimming up my layers, she wasn't actually cutting anything. She'd hold my hair between her fingers, and get the scissors close to my hair to cut it, but nothing would actually get cut. She spent more time combing my hair and walking from one side to the other side of my chair. I had told her at the very beginning that if she wasn't comfortable with cutting long hair, then it was okay, and that I was willing to wait for a different hairstylist even if that meant going again on a different day. She was so confident that she was really good at cutting long hair, so I trusted her. However, her actions made it clear to me that she was not comfortable cutting my hair. I was so taken aback by this entire experience. I even took a picture of the amount of my hair that was on the floor, which was hardly any at all, considering I asked for 2 inches off and it took over an hour. Because she hardly cut anything from my layers, I have freshly cut ends mixed with dry, frizzy ends. My ponytail looks like the end of a paintbrush. Just, truly bizarre. I don't want to put the hairstylist on blast, but my annoyance is mostly with Bishops. Don't send out an email asking "How did we do?" if you actually aren't going to read or do anything...
Read moreI had a wonderful experience with Anna for a long cut and Balayage. It was my first time at Bishops and Anna was recommended to me, she also is mentioned in several positive reviews. Anna took time to get to know me and understand the goal I was trying to achieve with my hair. I came with some pictures to help inspire and we discussed maintenance and my day to day hair routine in detail. She asks great questions and made good suggestions on what we can do and helped answer my questions along the way.
The process did take longer than I anticipated, I have long and fine hair but a LOT of it and Anna had never worked with me before. But I enjoyed my time and Anna and many other stylists are great conversationalist! Just the atmosphere alone is so warm and inviting I feel like I could easily just start chatting with anyone. Like I said my color took a little longer than expected and I overlapped with another client. Anna managed her time like a champ and another stylist Opal was kind enough to help along the way.
Clearly management is doing something right by attracting such talented and kind stylist! There’s so many personal touches like saying my hair is beautiful and making sure that I leave absolutely loving my new hair above anything else. It’s a great team atmosphere and I feel like everyone is happy to help each other out.
I highly recommend Anna and Opal for services! As well as Bishops in general, it’s just a...
Read moreI wanted to save some money and get a haircut and highlights at Bishops. Big mistake for highlights. This seems to be the kind of place to get outrageous color (if that’s what you’re looking for), not professional highlights. While the haircut was fine, the highlights were awful. They were uneven all over my head, chunky in some areas, more fine in other areas. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I got home. I called and spoke with someone who called herself the manager. I told her the highlights were awful and wanted them to be fixed. She told me the person who highlighted my hair was inexperienced and wasn’t familiar with the hair color. If the manager knew the stylist was inexperienced, why not 1. Not schedule her to do highlights or 2. Coach her through the coloring process so she can learn? It was not cool and very unprofessional that she threw the stylist under the bus. I went back to Bishops one last time to have the highlights fixed. I returned to my previous colorist at Juut in Wayzata whose work...
