FYI- The business responded to this review pretending to want to remedy the situation. The contact info/email DID NOT work. What a scam. REVIEW: I had the worst massage of my life (and I’ve been getting massages for 25 years). All I asked of my masseuse is for a basic Swedish massage. She started to give me a very hard painful massage more similar to a deep tissue massage. I asked her to please lighten the pressure, she acknowledged that she was heavy handed. However, then it went back to a really painful massage, I was wincing in pain the entire time. I asked her not once, not twice, not three times, BUT four times to please lighten the pressure. She never did. I was miserable and should have just got up and left. When it was over I headed to the receptionist and she asked how it was, I told her the truth. She then proceeded to tell me that that particular masseuse did hard heavy handed massages so it’s difficult for her to adjust the pressure. I said that what I requested was basic. The receptionist acted like I was bizarre for expecting a masseuse to be able to adjust their pressure, even though this is the first thing a masseuse asks when they start the massage. The receptionist was very indignant about this. It was ridiculous. It's the worst massage I’ve had and I warn anyone who doesn’t want a very hard deep tissue massage (or expect a masseuse to change the pressure she exudes) not to go there or expect an empathetic receptionist.

I’ve been a member of the wellness program for a few months and have been getting facials with Amber. I can’t say enough about how friendly, knowledgeable, and kind she is. She made me feel very comfortable and helped me understand my skin. The staff at the front desk are friendly as well! I haven’t had a bad experience even once. Always leave feeling positively! They also have some products on the shelves in the lobby. They sell the items they use during the massages and facials. The wellness program is $85.25 a month and gets you one service per month, discounted at around $50 off according to their documentation. This location is right on Bloomfield Avenue so there’s a lot of cars and foot traffic, but there’s plenty of places to park nearby. There’s a small parking lot around the corner of this location and you can get about 2 hours of parking for $2.00. There’s another parking garage behind the location but I’m not sure of the pricing. Attached is photos of the lobby, items they sell, and their booklet detailing who works there and when, what services they have available, and more information on their wellness program. I would recommend this location highly!

I’ve been a member of the wellness program for a few months and have been seeing Amber for facials at the location in Montclair, NJ. Amber is so helpful and knowledgeable about her craft. She’s very friendly. The staff at the front desk are also very friendly and helpful! I drive an extra 30 minutes just to come to this location specifically! I highly recommend. It has helped my skin improve over the last few months. I’m attaching photos of the inside of the location and of their booklet with their services!

I've had a Hand & Stone membership for a few years now originally started in South Jersey. I've used my membership at various locations across the state of NJ. Anyway, one day recently I was in a lot of pain and I wondered if Hand & Stone had "Sports Massage" as one of their offered services. I felt like to alleviate the pain I was feeling that a combination of massage and stretching would help.

I knew I would be in the Montclair location the following day so I called the Montclair Hand & Stone location. And they confirmed with my now favorite masseuse Dominic that he was able to do the sports massage I felt I needed. I WAS SO EXCITED.

Upon my visit the receptionist who was the same person I spoke with over the phone when booking, she was so friendly and extremely helpful. The location is in a popular area and the inside is clean, smells good and of course has the standard signature Hand & Stone signage and products on display.

Dominic, my masseuse greeted me at the front desk to escort me to the room to get comfortable for my massage. He inquired about the areas I felt pain and explained what he planned on doing to ensure I got the most benefit out of my allotted time.

Let me tell you!!!! .....DOMINIC is one of the best masseuses I've had in a long time from a Hand & Stone franchise location. He is well trained in his ability as a massage therapist. In one session he was able to significantly reduce the pain I originally felt before coming in.

He was so good I booked him for 3 additional weekly sessions. And so far my pain level has been reduced so much, I postponed my doctors appointment.

And just so you know I travel a lot and frequent different Massage & Spa places around the World as a avid traveler and I'm a Travel Agent so my relaxation is important to my Travel Experience. So with that said Dominic at Hand & Stone Montclair, NJ is Ranking in top 5 of Massage Therapist.

If you need a good masseuse, I highly recommend Dominic. He's great at deep tissue massage as well for those who can handle firm pressure. The Montclair Hand & Stone is at the top of my list NOW as my go to massage location with my membership. And I'm sure the other massage therapist are great too. I just got lucky with who I needed on the first visit. Other clients I observed are happy with the other therapist too so if you can't get Dominic I'm sure you can't go wrong with any of the other masseuses.

My only critique is to get a clear bowl of the White Mint Lifesavers Candy to serve to your guests. LITERALLY EVERY Hand & Stone location I've ever visited has them on display except for this location. I thought it was Standard to the Brand. Just a suggestion for continuity between locations.

Hopefully this review was helpful to someone.

My massage was not great. I booked massages as a treat for me and my boyfriend. We had never been to this location before so i booked with a random female name. My masseuse was not the female I booked but I was okay with that I because what did I know anyway, it being my first time there. She quickly asked me if there were any areas to focus and on and as i was answering turned her back and began to walk out of the room. She was friendly but it was strange and everything after that felt rushed. She moved fast even when she was touching my scalp...i was not relaxed at all and felt on edge for 70% of the massage. I told her to go easy on me before she started (i was looking for something more relaxing) and even though i moved from her grip a few times she didn’t get the point, so in the middle of my massage I had to ask again to go easy. She did not speak English well and said hurts, yes? And then chucked and continued. To let me know our hour was up she said something along the lines of “okay” and chuckled again. When I asked if we were done to confirm what she said she said yes and to meet outside. Once i was dressed i stepped out the door and she was not there so i went to the front alone and paid. The woman at the front desk wouldn’t even crack a smile at me. She was extremely unfriendly. As i was paying my masseuse came out and laughed again and said something about “here i was” (like she had lost me). I said thank you because what else could i say and she quickly left without Another word or asking me about my experience.

I have been to other locations in past years and this was by far my worst experience. I will not be coming back and I 100% feel like i was ripped off and wasted money for the day that could’ve been spent elsewhere. What was even more disappointing to hear after was that my boyfriend had the opposite experience with his massage (they talked in detail and she listened to his focus areas and pressure) and the treatment he described was...

Horrible experience!! It started by me arriving to my appointment on time(12:00pm) and filling out the paperwork, which took a bit longer due to me being pregnant and having to fill out an additional form. The masseuse was standing by the door as I filled out my paperwork and asked twice if I was ready yet. I gave her a strange look because I clearly was still in the process of completion and she seemed to be in a rush. I finally get in the room after using the rest room and disrobing and by the time my massage started it was 12:18 exactly. She asked where I had pain or discomfort and explained that prenatal massage aren’t as much pressure as normal massages. I told her my hips and back were the problem areas and she pretty much focused on my neck and shoulders which felt great but it wasn’t what I asked for. By 12:50 on the dot she was finished. I was confused because this clearly wasn’t an hour long massage. I waited as she took s while to bring back a cup of water and decided to just get dressed and get out of there. When I reached the front desk to check out I asked how long the massage was supposed to be and I was immediately given attitude! I was accused of being late (which was an absolute lie) and told that they deduct the time it takes to get undressed and dressed and also me using the bathroom!! A pregnant women at that!! I was shocked but refused to go back and forth with the woman. I payed for my half done service and vowed to never step foot in this...
