WVU Hope Coliseum — Attraction in Morgantown

Great seats, great game, great place!

My family recently attended the Harlem Globetrotters game at WVU Coliseum. This is the first time we have seen the Harlem Globetrotters at this location in quite some time, and we were not disappointed! No matter which seat you are in, it is a good one, so you have a clear iview of all entertainment. The Globetrotters were very funny and kept your focused the whole time as usual.

You had plenty of areas to purchase memorabilia, including down on the court.

If I had any complaints about this visit, it was two things. We traveled from PA for this game. On the way in, we had to walk quite a ways from parking to get to the Colosseum. Upon entering, security stopped my 10-year-old daughter for her backpack purse she was wearing and said that she could not take it inside. We informed him that it was not a backpack, but was a purse to which he held up a small card around his neck and said that it was too large. We even gave him the opportunity to search it and he did not want to do that, so my husband had to walk 10 minutes down and 10 minutes back to put it in the car which made us very late for the game.

During the autograph signing, they did rope off a square around the court that the players would stand behind while we stood on the other side. I kind of wish that they would’ve had another rope behind us to where they could keep you in line similar to an amusement park line. Unfortunately, when you only put the rope up in front of the player, you have people who will wait their turn and then you have others who will push their way from the sides because there is no actual line itself. My 7 year old who was very small was squeezed between 2 adults trying to push from both sides of him. There could definitely be a better process for this line.

Great location for sporting events, though I will admit that I have only come for basketball games. Things you need to know: Renovations to the concourse increased restroom and concession spaces, but not all sites are created equal, so look around. (Some food stands are like convenience stores, others have a full restaurant-worthy menu. Some restrooms have only a few stalls, while others are loaded.) Views are good from about anywhere, but the womens' games are far less expensive, and you can get much closer to the floor without it costing much. As with most such venues, the music is too loud and too frequent. If you have small or autistic children, be certain to bring ear protection. The pep band is awesome, and quite a bonus. There are usually a good many ushers to help direct you, or get help if you need it. The primary problem here is parking. Womens' games are usually fine, but you won't get close to the building on a men's night. (Unless you have a handicapped pass, in which case, arrive 2+ hours before game time, and park on the blue side.) Do NOT expect to leave quickly, as the cops will always let every car out of the Blue Lot before almost anyone who is parked in handicapped or below the building. The WVU Coliseum resembles a UFO at night and offers a fantastic game atmosphere inside with great snack variety. However, the parking situation is frustrating - we waited in a long line past multiple attendants only to learn the lot was full. When I was a student, taking the PRT over and making the short walk was never an issue, but now parking on the roadside can be both scary and exhausting. Women's games are much less stressful with free, available parking (enjoy while it lasts with our phenomenal team!).
