Amongst the Mexican/Latin markets in the Peninsula, we have found this to be one of the best for both fresh produce and tacos. (Warning: As with most street tacos, pls exercise caution. Asides from finger sized bone shards that can be dangerously sharp, we have gotten a lot of rocks in our pollo and Al pastor, and have bit down on more than one just so, quite painful, and once cracked a tooth). Fresh chickpeas, tomatillos, nopal pads, white onions, peppers, purple field corn for making fresh masa, they have it. As always, use common sense and judgement when selecting your purchases. Sometimes I have had to throw out half of the corn I bought bc they are full of holes, and float. Order at the taqueria and pick up groceries, and your food will be ready by the time you are done. It's a solid go-to for a quick weekday lunch, when you are busy working and don't feel like cooking. On Friday afternoons we have seen them smoking chicken outside and have tried them a couple of times. They look great, but taste a bit like chicken ham, due to high salt content. We think they brine them. Good to know for the tacos: Go early for chorizo, they sell out if you go too late in the afternoon. The tacos lack consistency in amount and freshness level, but generally the pollo asado is a safe bet. Sometimes it does have a bit of warmed over flavor, or tastes like their leftover rotisserie chicken heated up. We have needed between 3-7 tacos per person for lunch. (We only eat one of the two corn tortillas they give you per taco, if you eat the two tortillas per taco, you probably need less.) Depending on who is assembling that day, you may get more or less meat, and fixings (onion cilantro radish salsa). We just order a couple extra tacos to make sure we have enough. We think the flavor of Al pastor is spot on. However you get lots of pure fat. See pic for two Al pastor tacos, and the amount of visible pure fat that was picked out (some got spit out in a napkin, so it's not even all of it) So if you really want some, order double the amount, so you can still have meat after removing the huge fat and gristle chunks. Also don't recommend Tuesdays when they are a dollar, you get even less meat than usual. Really wish they would fix this problem, we have tried complaining (in fluent Spanish) but it's met with an 'oh well'. Carne asada sometimes has gristle but some days is good. Carnitas have a piggy odor and flavor so we avoid these.

🛒 La Plaza Market: Your One-Stop Flavor Fiesta 🥩 Meat Department: Thin-sliced carne asada ready for the grill 🔥, marinated cuts that beg for a backyard cookout 🌮, and chorizo that packs a punch 🌶️. Just be ready to flex your Spanish skills—English isn’t always the default 🗣️🤷‍♂️. 🧀 Groceries: Fresh crema, queso, and salsa that taste like abuela made them herself 👵🧄. Whether you're crafting tacos or tamales, this place has the goods. 🌮 Taco Tuesdays: $1 Al Pastor tacos? Yes, please! 🌮💸 Just don’t show up on a Monday expecting magic—taco dreams pause for a day 😅. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Vibe: Family-run, friendly, and full of character. Grab your plate and head to Rengstorff Park for a front-row seat to local life 🏀🌳. 💬 Heads-Up: Not every staff member speaks English fluently, so patience and a smile go a long way 😊. But the flavors? They speak loud and clear 🔊😋. 🌟 Overall: La Plaza Market is a hidden gem 💎 for authentic ingredients and street-style eats. It’s not fancy—it’s flavorful, local, and unapologetically real.

Rating lowered to 1 star older male cook has hand nail fungal infection. Calificación reducida a 1 estrella. Cocinero masculino mayor tiene infección fúngica en las uñas de la mano. 4.5 out of 5. The Super Asafa Burrito is delicious. The rice lacks vibrancy with tomato sauce, it had a good chicken broth bullion flavor. The steak meat, was half-boiled then charred, was well-spiced, and the guacamole was amazing. The burrito had a clean, neutral taste, and the flour tortilla from Guerrero brand was toasted to perfection. Overall i would come here weekly if i lived closer

This is my rating for La Plaza’s taqueria. I love their tacos and service. Super delicious, authentic tortillas and the meat is seasoned well. I usually order tacos de pollo which already come with radishes/limes and salsas of your choice. I do make sure to order a separate order of grilled onions/jalapeños as well. Back then (when this place was named Mi Pueblo) everything was included in your tacos - now you must pay for some accompaniments like said onions/jalapeños, which makes sense because of rising costs. I also used to order their burritos when named Mi Pueblo, so gotta try those again. Nonetheless, their portions are still filling and I’ve always been satisfied with the taste. I do wish they improved some of their salsas. Some lack in flavor and I assume those are ones that come bottled and others taste more fresh like their orange...
