This review was on a Sunday @11am. A group of 6 of us, and a little puppy, decided to eat there for lunch. We were craving a nice hot noodle spot. This place showed up on my search nearest me at the time. It was my first time there, I'm from out of town. We chose to eat outside of course, be it, we did have a dog with us. My first impression was that all the staff members were very friendly. The menu were easy to understand and they even gave us recommendations of what there favorite food choice was to help. THEY EVEN OFFERED TO BRING A BOWL OF WATER FOR THE PUP! That right there speaks volumes for an unexpected service. We were touched and thankful. We were off on a awesome start. Service was excellent 👌 Now for the food. For appetizers I had the garlic edamame, agedashi tofu, and fried gyoza. For the main dish I chose the GarlicTonkatsu ramen🤤. The garlic edamame was the first of its kind that I had. It was unique, at least to me. I expected the edemame to be boiled and lightly seasoned with salt, you know the usual way, but it was different this time. I want to say it was stir fried with chili oil and seasoned with garlic. I must say it was delicious. I ate the whole thing🤣. As for the agedashi and fried gyoza, it's tasted what I expected it to taste. Although I must say It's a simple dish, but the eye candy perspective was executed well. It was adorned with a nice green lettuce with he highlighted purple cabbage. Very fancy🤩. The ramen: on the menu it doesn't say spicy. I asked our waitress about it has she said they can add the spicy oil on the side. That was perfect. The food did not take long to arrive, and when it did the presentation was definitely Instagram worthy🤣. The presentation was all there. With the pork on the side, the ramen noodle in the center, the egg slightly to the left side, and that creamy broth is what dreams are made of🥲🤤👌. Before adding the chili sauce I tasted the broth, it is a MUST DO for any soup in my opinion. And it did not disappoint. The flavor was well-balanced not overly salted and had a great aroma. When I added the chili oil, it became perfection to my taste buds. Yes it was DAMN GOOD! I did not add any other seasonings. I had no complaints. I was in a happy place😌🥰. All together for me and my GF it was $95 with gratuity included. Being in the Bay Area it's about that's about the cost I expected, but the food and service was well worth it for us. I felt like giving the cook a high five🖐💥🖐.
Ambience: outside dining, well shaded, the tents were a little low but caution signs were well posted, simple and easily serves large groups up to 8. Food: hot, warm, delicious met my expectations Service: friendly, attentive, and very accommodating to our little pup with us. BIG ups for the pet accommodation. Cons: the only bad thing that comes to mind was just that low tent height (I'm 5'8), but to be honest it really wasn't that bad. I have no comments for the...
Read moreI highly recommend getting their premium rolls! The execution was amazing, each roll was we thought out. Skip the happy hour menu. Pay attention to the monthly rolls, I only noticed it at the end, but the description looked fire.
Premium rolls: Eighty-Eight Roll was packed and topped with so much fish! I loved the wasbi tobiko on top. The tuna was extremely fresh. Texture was soft. The roll was amazing. Sauce was really good very light and not over powering was savory and a hint of citrus. Highly recommend.
The Phoenix Roll was also amazing. The tobiko flavor was very interesting. It had a smoky taste to it similar to hondashi from their sauce, which was similar to a soy reduction with bonito. I the tobiko may have absorbed some of the sauce flavor (?). The avocado was nice and buttery. The unagi top was really savory. Love the portion size of the fish. Sauce seems like a soy reduction with some hondashi or bonito, very delicious.Hamachi had a nice firmer texture. Love the combination of ingredients.
Happy hour: Takoyaki batter is nice and crispy and a big chunk of tender octopus inside. Lightly dressed which doesn’t over power everything.
California roll crab salad was a bit saucy, a bit heavy on the mayo side.
Spicy tuna was good. Minced nicely that there is still texture to the bite rather than all mush. Not too spicy, tasted very fresh.
I like that all the rolls were packed. And light on the rice. The speciality rolls were well thought out with amazing execution. All the individual flavors fit perfectly and complimented each other. I would skip the happy hour rolls and re place it with the monthly roll. Didn’t get a chance to try it but the description looked really good.
Service was good very attentive, they paid attention to the water level and asked if we need more. Our rolls came out...
Read moreSushi & Ramen Family Style Restaurant Mountain View: My Family’s Go-To Sushi 88 & Ramen is a favorite of my family’s for when we are craving sushi, rolls, and/or ramen. There is a little something for everyone. The restaurant is tiny and down to earth, but plenty of room for seating family style. They also have a sushi bar. The sashimi plates are delicious, the Hamachi and the Salmon are my favorite. The sashimi is fresh and heavy (thick), good quality and good texture. Often the sashimi appetizer plate and a small avocado roll is plenty for myself because of the weight and quality of the sashimi. The chirashi and donburi options are also really good. As far as soups (ramen) goes, the ramen is one of my favorites for rainy days or for when I’m feeling under the weather or just want something more hearty, especially the black garlic miso ramen. The taste is bold and a little spicy but not overdone, warming and flavorful. The restaurant also offers bento boxes and basic rolls (Alaskan Roll, Philadelphia Roll, Rainbow Roll, Dragon Roll) as well as fancy & lux rolls (49er roll, blossom roll, and much more). Their pricing has increased in some menu items since the new menu was released a few months ago, but it is still well-balanced in price, options, and flavor palettes. Not a fancy outing, more down to earth and relaxed. For when you want something delicious, good quality, and not-fussy with a homely and local feel....
