Nob Hill Foods — Attraction in Mountain View

Their produce and quality is legendary! Had the experience more that once where I or someone else was complementing the Hostess on some fruit in season or other pickings of the produce section.... She'd (or occasionally he) would smile and say two words: "Nob Hill". Nothing more was required ... and the conversation would shift to the experience of others around the table with this wonderful market. When you talk to the staff it doesn't take long to figure out why this is the case.... Once I was looking for peaches, saw how wonderful they looked, and asked how they were..."These aren't quite at their best," I was told, "Try again in about two weeks." So I only bought a couple (they were still pretty good), but two weeks later ... WOW! It's like there's this new thing called a "peach" that comes to Nob Hill, and none of the other stores carry it! Of course, Nob Hill can't do much with the mass produced mega-brands, but they have 'em... But the butcher's best is a superb selection (I've only sampled the fish there ... and I'm mostly judging by the variety of the presentation) ... That said, I can vouch for that department as well. Oh. And I am not an employee, supplier, neighbor, owner, or even a miniscule share holder. Just a very happy customer. (And I admit to buying the generic staples at pretty much anyplace that's close and convenient to home. So I've sampled and compared other stores ... which can be hugely more than adequate in many cases, of course.) (Must keep this review positive for all concerned; I believe that mud slinging where it is not truly warranted should...

This is my go to place for milk and milk products, jams, fresh orange juice, coffee and popcorn, as well as salads.

The employees are usually upbeat and answer questions when I reach out to them.

The only exception was when I got some salt boxes from the store and realized that the salt had turned into really big chunks and would not come out of the box despite all efforts. I did not have the receipt but thought the store could pull my history with my customer ID. I went back to switch the salt boxes and was appalled at the treatment.

For a mere $10 worth of purchase the cashier refused to let me switch the salt boxes with another product. She insisted that I could take only salt boxes and nothing else (which by the way had the same problem. Seemed their entire batch of boxes had gone bad). I stood my ground, expressed my dissatisfaction and was ready to leave the money and the spoiled salt. She did switch the product out but the experience did leave a bad taste...

This store is extremely clean and every staff member I have interacted with has been extremely pleasant and professional. Once my baby was screaming throughout the store, and instead of showing irritation, multiple staff offered assistance in caring for him and cheering him up - tissues, a balloon, etc. Whenever I have asked for help, they have always been more than willing to assist and every cashier has been so friendly. It is refreshing to be greeted with a smile at the end of a long shopping trip!

I don’t know why, but I had the impression that this store was more expensive than other chains in the area. I was wrong, it is the same price, and sometimes even lower prices than Safeway. I definitely prefer coming here because I find the atmosphere, the staff, and the cleanliness to be superior to any nearby stores. Thank you to all of the staff who have been so kind and courteous to us and kudos to the management for clearly creating a great work...
