ALDI — Attraction in Muncie

Good produce, but produce in Anderson location is better. The selection of non-food items is extensive. This visit, the selection of Work Zone products (which are great products) was the widest I have seen yet.

I was unimpressed by how a problem with the eggs was (not) handled. I pointed out to staff that nearly 1/2 of the egg cartons were smashed and saturated by broken eggs, and that most cartons that looked okay on the outside had one or more broken eggs inside. The response I received was that trucks sometimes smash things, and that people were just going to have to pick around them. This is unsanitary - particularly if customers handle produce after selecting their eggs.

The selection of Aldi's GF products was almost complete. Unfortunately, they had no GF bread!!!

Placement of food in the cart was satisfactory.

I paid with EBT and was treated respectfully.

I mention this because Greenwood and South Indianapolis locations have not been respectful in the past. Sometimes these Southern locations make a special effort to be loud about the fact that EBT users are paying using EBT in an apparent attempt to embarass the customer. Other elements of disrespect are more difficult to quantify - annoyed sighs, eyes looking me up and down, seemingly evaluating my worthyness.

Because these phenomena exist, I very much appreciate what should be regarded as baseline basic human decency.

This is not my usual store, and I should comment on the customers as well - everyone was very patient and nice.

The only reason I like Aldi is the savings. Grocery items cost much less. My biggest complaint is in how the employees handle their products. Though they give a pleasant greeting, when checking customers out at the register, most employees act like they are in a race trying to scan the items so quickly that things are not handled with care. Often items are run across the scanner then just "dropped" in the cart from conveyer level unless the item is eggs. Today I was in Aldi's 30 minutes before closing. As I passed the produce, an employee was re-organizing the area. She was literally throwing cantaloupe from a half-full box into another box. I commented to her "Dont you think those will bruise"? She responded, "I don't know". Then I saw her throwing bags of apples. I was very disturbed to think of a customer buying these items and not realizing how they had been handled. When I checked out, I found out this was a manager. I was appalled at this behavior to the point of considering no longer...

Went to Aldi on a weekday morning, got there for around 9am when they open. No line outside.

Aldi, for those who have been living under rocks, is a discount grocery store, there was no line and it wasn't busy at that time.

The store has almost everything you could want, just not as many brand names. The food is good quality, they are usually well stocked and everything is cheaper than in stores most of the time.

They only have one manned checkout, but plenty of self checkouts that egg you on to go quicker.

I picked up a mug as one of their weekly specials.

Aldi is really good for your basics, but I don't think I could do a full shop there, I always want something additional from a bigger store.
