I was super excited to go to Foxy Lady Boutique on April 19th for my first prom. I had been looking forward to this moment for ages, dreaming about finding the perfect dress. But honestly, the experience didn’t go as well as I had hoped. One of the girls was nice, but the rest of the staff were just mean, and the whole vibe felt really off. Instead of feeling celebrated, I ended up feeling body shamed. The girls around me while I was trying on dresses didn’t say anything encouraging—not even a simple “you look amazing.” They seemed annoyed and uninterested, which made me feel so uncomfortable. I left almost in tears, feeling totally deflated when I had been so excited just moments before. I heard about this place from someone close to me, but I definitely won’t be going back. If you want a supportive prom dress fitting experience, skip this place. It felt like a waste of time, and the staff made me feel like I wasn’t good enough. Plus, if you’re over a size 8, good luck finding options compared to someone who’s a 00-6. It was such a letdown for what should have been a special day.
Leaving the store without a dress felt even worse. Nobody said, “I’m sorry you couldn’t find a dress,” or offered any help. They didn’t even wish me luck or say, “Have a great time at prom.” It felt like they were just trying to rush us out. Plus, while I was trying on dresses, my family noticed one of the staff members staring at us like she thought we were going to steal something. Since most of my family is Black and people of color, it really made us...
Read moreWent in to today by appointment to shop for Prom. As a mother I was made to feel as if I could not pick dresses for my daughter to try. We also felt rushed and pressured to buy a dress we did not want but the worse part was how they almost made her best friend cry with the fat shaming. This child wears a size 6 but was told they just don't have any dresses to fit her. They have plenty of dresses if you are a size triple zero to size 4 but are very limited above that. They also kept pushing random dresses on them that they did not like and had no interest in just trying to make a sale. They both left there so discouraged and upset. I honestly did not hear about the fat shaming until we had left or I would have immediately addressed that issue. We will never be back and I don't recommend them to anyone who isn't rail thin since they enjoy tearing down and fat shaming normal size 6 bodies. No matter the size, a young girl should never leave a dress shop feeling bad about herself because of heartless employees who enjoy tearing...
Read moreWas looking forward to checking out the MOB selections at foxy lady. For several months you were asked to make an appt. to see products. When I called this morning to see availability because my friend was in town this weekend, and she also is a MOB shopper, no answer. Called a few times. No answer. Calls were not answered, but as good fortune would have it the website said walk ins are now welcomed! We hop in the car and travel south from Calabash. Walk up the foxy lady door and find it was locked. A sign says please knock or call the number listed. We knock and young lady dressed in cut up denim jean shorts opens the doors and asks what we want. We explain we would like to see your MOB dresses. She said oh well we already have people in that area here looking at MOB dresses so I can’t let you in. I look in and it’s dark and no one in sight. REALLY? 2 cars in the parking lot. Poor customer service.
