My experience here was so phenomenal, I don’t even know where to begin. Do I start with the company, do I start with the staff, do I start with the incredible food? I came to Myrtle Beach for a medical conference and was traveling alone. Whenever I travel I always try to seek out local establishments first to contribute to their community. I tried to couple of places with good reviews, shockingly, where did these people learn to eat? I honestly chose 42nd St. bar and Grill because it was the closest nice place to a performance I was attending after dinner. When possible, I love to sit at the bar/kitchen window, specially if it has a great view of the kitchen, which this does. The first person I met was a delightful Gentlemen I later discovered was the owner John Lombardo. He and the staff were great dinner companions.
This restaurant is so warm and welcoming and the staff, if I did not know anything else about the person running this restaurant, I would know they were someone with great character and a genuine kind heart. The staff are so happy and the place had such a sweet positive vibe. I watched John several times treat his staff with kindness and respect. Always asking them please and hearing him thank his staff for their work. He has passed on his culinary knowledge to his head chef which I would put up against any “pro”. That man knows flavor! The whole team was just spectacular!
OK now what you’ve all been waiting for, the food: I started with John’s recipe of Oysters Rockefeller. OMGOSH! That was the most magical oyster I have ever eaten in my life! Brilliant flavors! The oyster just melted in my mouth it was so delicious! My next dish was the beet tartare which I highly highly recommend. It’s a very interesting plate, yet beautiful and you wonder, “How are these flavors going to work together, and then they do in the most wonderful way with explosion of flavor in every bite. The stone mustard, do yummy! My entrée was a deconstructed beef Wellington. I have never had a beef Wellington. I know what they look like but I’m not sure what they’re supposed to taste like. I can tell you this, that was the most delicious sirloin I had ever ate. It was so tender I almost thought I was eating a fillet. I took dessert home with me. They offered five or six different desserts. The only two desserts they make in house are the tiramisu and John’s great great grandmothers Italian rainbow cake. Just stop right there don’t order anything else because you can get Italian rainbow cake anywhere but you can not get John’s great great grandmother‘s rainbow Italian cake anywhere. I would love to take this whole cake home with me it was that good. The best Italian rainbow cake I’ve ever had.
If you’re going to Myrtle Beach please please do yourself a favor come in and enjoy this restaurant you will not be sorry. I know I can’t wait to...
Read moreI didn't expect to see such a difference between the outside and inside when walking in. Outside it looks rather plain and casual. When you walk in, it has a faint formality to the look and feel even though it is a rather casual place with upscale food. Food: our apps were the polenta and the shrimp cocktail. There was nothing wrong with the shrimp cocktail, but I was NOT a fan. Would not recommend to first time tryers like myself, but if you already know you like it, by all means go for it. The polenta was Fan-freaking-tastic. Crispy outside (fried) with a soft center covered in cheese served with a sauce that I forgot but was delicious with it. Get the polenta if you can't decide. Or the salad (Ceasar I think) because my husband raved that it was the best salad he had ever had in such a long time. My husband got the ever popular beef wellington. It is not wrapped in the pastry, however it is to the side so you can build your bite. It was juicy, tender, flavorful. I would recommend to anyone who wants to try it or likes steak (fancy style). I had the lobster Mac and cheese. There are generous lobster claw and tail bits throughout. The mac and cheese was so gooey and fresh and delicious. I cannot rave about the gooey goodness of the cheese enough! Their desserts vary so you must ask when you are ready. They happened to have a lemoncello cake. It was lemony and smooth. 11/10. Would order again and again and again. Husband had the "Italian flag cake". The cake is dyed to look like the Italian flag 🇮🇹 on its ride. Green has a subtle pistachio flavor with a small pistachio icing. White has subtle almond flavors and icing. The red on the top is raspberry with a raspberry icing. The desserts were plated and decorated. Also, big shout out to Bill, our server, who was an awesome help and really deserves some praise. He was the epitome of respectful, super knowledgeable of food and drinks, he was super enjoyable as a server. The kind of person you would invite to sit and chat with you if you were open to that and he wasn't working, obviously. Ask for Bill. He made the experience smooth and seemless. 10/10 would recommend. Not super expensive, but have a decent budget around 100$ for 2 people depending on what/how much you order. Would have been pretty easy to stay under 100$ if we'd have tried. Food is delicious. Worth visiting. ASK FOR BILL....
Read moreWe went to this place because it was our last night and it was #2 on TripAdvisor top 10 for dinner. Lost out to melting pot. Let me tell you melting pot must have paid for that spot cuz in no way should this not be first. Sorry we were under dressed as this was a perfect dress nice date night restaurant by no means normal " bar food" kinda place. Yes it is in a strip mall and small but don't count it out. Those muscles were in a miso soup ( add scallions please) were cooked perfectly. Husband was almost full on that. ($10). The food we ordered was " cold smoked", hence the covers , and other pic showing dishes as smoke is released. Take breath cuz the chips they use for the cold smoke are amazing and different varieties. Yes they will tell you the flavor before the release. I had the deconstructed wellington med rare was amazing! Best steak we've had in awhile. Mushroom is inside the biscuit. He had filet and truffle butter.(server also provided extra truffle butter since his was melting upon arrival.did not go to waste) Both came w mashed potatoes and asparagus. We ended the night w an order of caramel cheesecake to go ( sorry no pics) that we took back to the condo and enjoyed. Definitely on the short list for places to bring people to or that special (last night) dinner. Total cost 2 apps, 2 meals, 2 non alcohol beverages and desert. Under $100 before tip. Also huge bonus they have an option for reservations. On a Saturday night that is a huge bonus. Definitely...
