Vibe: Whether its your first time or you are a returning customer, most polite, enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff you can find in Nashville. They continually find innovative ways to stay involved in the community, have awesome events and make music more exciting than clicking to download and then never listening to it again.
Selection: Very very good selection. If you are still a CD buff, both used and new is fantastic. If you are a record person, their new record selection is fantastic, used records could be a bit better (selection wise), but not the end of the world. Most stuff now gets released on Vinyl + MP3 download, so both my turntables and MP3 players are happy. Between Vinyl and CD it is very rare to be looking for something and for them NOT to have it, or be able to get it in. And you can find some real jems among their collections too.
Pricing: Some people complain about their pricing, and there are some records that I feel are overpriced (Arcade Fire comes to mind). That being said, most pricings are very good and consistent with other Indie record stores nationwide. I'd rather spend $15 on a great sounding record at Grimeys than $10 for a CD at Wal-Mart or $8 for a digital download. Honestly, anything you invest in this place goes right back to the community in my opinion, so its totally worth it. And if you buy music from Wal-mart, you aren't a supporter of the Arts anyway.
My only complaint is that they have so much good stuff to get it is very easy to go from buying "just 1 record" to spending over $100. So if you are going in just to get whatever new release, beware, because you will always find more.
I have been to record shops in Chicago, St Louis, Allentown, Austin, etc, and Grimeys is still up there with the best of them with its own unique vibe and feel. A must for...
Read morebefore vacationing to Nashville, i looked up a blog post of where to go to buy vinyl. Grimey’s was the number one spot to check out, and i’m glad i went! i’m a huge fan of Paramore, and saw where they raved about them on Instagram, and knowing my favorite band recommends them made it so much better. opening hours were a weeeee bit different on the door than online, so i got a little nervous walking in but i got better when i saw some people in there. i was blown away by their selection, as it was bigger than my local record store at home. they have anything from classics, local bands, used records, to new music that hit the market just that week. i picked up Paramore’s self titled album (as stated, i love me some Paramore), and was impressed by not only the condition, but by the price point!! it was a couple dollars cheaper than my record stores at home, so that was my moment of being more in love. the staff was super nice, very very chill, and even complimented on my necklace i was wearing, which made me do a little happy dance because i loved the atmosphere a lot. definitely recommend to stop by when visiting, it’s such an amazing spot for new and old!! below is a pic from the outside view, and it’s been edited so that’s why it looks like it’s...
Read moreI've been going to this shop for about 6 months and I have had problems with returns twice. The first problem was when I bought a first pressing of an album in a mystery color that had already sold out online. When I got out to my car I popped it open to check it out because I was so excited! I pulled it out of the sleeve and there were these two gashes in it from what clearly was some kind of machine from the factory, so I went back in to get an exchange for another copy(they had multiple). It was less than 2 minutes later and they kept telling me they didn't know what they could do. I had to point out that I had just walked out the door with it and I still had the packaging and the damn receipt at least 4 times before they exchanged it, and when they did they literally said "Here" and walked off with an attitude! The second time, I had bought a new release and waited to open it when I got home. It was scratched to hell all over like a 99 cent Goodwill record and several are audible, so I took it back. They cleaned it and I was told because of the nature of how records are manufactured they would not replace ones with "minor scratches" so now I'm stuck with it...I'm 26 and I've been working in customer service and for 3 years. This is not...
