So, this is long. I'm going to lay out alllll the good and the bad. Unfortunately, the bad killed my experience, and I won't be back for that reason. I LOVE Pearl Diver, and I was sooo excited for this spot.
I personally feel that cocktail attire should be the expectation at all cocktail bars, so I didn't at all mind the dress code. The atmosphere is fantastic. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Hostess were dressed so circusy cute. You go through the big curtain and the whole place was just perfect. Cocktails were fun and creative.
This is where the rave review will end.
There is a very small menu, which we knew- but I say this to say, this is not a restaurant. This is a bar with some fun snacks. My friend and I ordered 4 plates total, and then were not hungry. I would not say totally satisfied, but not hungry. The Crab Crisps had 2 egg rolls size crisps ($14 I think). They were very good, but, 2 egg rolls. The onion tart was pretty good ($12 I think). Very tiny. A small plate of fries were good, but just plain fries ($12 I think) and a very good Caesar salad with fresh croutons ($12 I think). All too expensive and too small, but again, this is fair/expected for a cocktail bar in East Nashville.
Where things took a bad turn for me was when we were finishing the fries. There were some left, which we were munching and they kept asking to take them away. We ordered our 3rd round of tiny cocktails, and I feel like it was clear he didn't expect that. (For the record, neither of us had a buzz in the least. These drinks were mostly show, not potent in the least. But they were fun, so we were having fun trying different ones, having a sober driver on standby, just in case). We waited, and eventually I saw 2 drinks headed our way... Then by us to another table. We waited, and finally 2 more drinks... Went to the table next to us. Our server checked in, and took the fries plate since we were down to just a couple left... 2 more drinks come to the table on our other side. Very long wait, so I tell my friend I'll ask him next time he comes by. I hate to complain or be impatient, but I was getting a "rushed" feeling and was uncomfortable. But, when he came back, prob 20 minutes after our order, he had our cocktails. He also had our check...
So, here's where idk how to feel. Because, I GET turning tables. I've been a server and it's the name of the game. But, this is a bar. Straight up. And having cocktails and catching up with my friend for my birthday is what I was there to do. I did not ask for a check. Each round of drinks was about $30, so it isn't like we weren't running up a tab, and I'm a HEAVY TIPPER, not that he could know that then. Sooo, I just didn't like being rushed out the door. But then it got worse. The very sweet hostess from before looked frustrated walking around for a few minutes, then came to our table and said, "I'm sorry, but we have another reservation."
And, I've actually never. I've been to bars, cocktail bars, emmersocr spots, restaurants, dive bars, high end restaurants...never have I ever been asked to leave to make room while still actively ordering. I kinda get that they take reservations. They shouldn't (bc it's a bar) but they do. I get that they need to seat people. But we weren't finished. We were still ordering and willing to spend our money here. To practically be kicked out, in the middle of catching up at a little 2-top cocktail table is ridiculous. This menu is like 8-10 pages, 2 of which are small plates, the rest are cocktails. If they want to be a restaurant, they need a food menu. If they want to be a bar, they need to understand how bars work. The funny thing is, they initially told us, those who stay until midnight, they do champagne toasts every night like New Years... Well, good luck staying past 9. Lol.
The parking lot is not owned by them, but they do comp 1 hour. Well, that wasn't enough time, so I set a 3hr parking, (which was $18!) so I wouldn't have to sweat it. Funny part is, they asked us to leave to open up the table plenty before that, so that was a total waste.
Go to Pearl...
Read moreLet me preface by saying that the decor was cute and the host was very nice when we walked in and the bartenders were very entertaining to watch make drinks. HOWEVER, the service was downright atrocious. We were there 2 hours and our server only came 3 times and that was after we waited like 20 minutes at a time for her to come check on us or refill our waters. We just assumed that because she was the only waitress in the bar that she was busy, so we were very patient with her, but that was no excuse for her poor service with us compared to other patrons.
She was very dry with us while being chatty and attentive to other patrons. When we finally were ready to pay, two of our friends paid their tip in card while me and my other friend were gonna tip with cash. However, when she saw that I didn’t tip, she walked away with an attitude as I was LITERALLY pulling the cash out my wallet. We had to get her attention after she ignored us calling the first time to ask for the receipts (that we opted for on the machine but never got). She huffed and walked away without a word. She brought back the receipts and I noticed the Absinthe Frappe rung up as $15 instead of $13 that was on the menu, and I was gonna ask her until she interrupted me saying something about the reason it’s so high is the taxes and because I didn’t tip, she was the one who “basically paid for my drinks” and proceeded to walk off AGAIN! That experience literally ruined the whole night for us.
When I called to complain to the manager about her service, she justified her behavior saying because she gets gets paid so low hourly, she relies on tips, and all the confusing stuff about paying workers and the establishment taking their money etc. As a former waitress and bartender myself, I understand how the law and management doesn’t want to pay you enough and you rely on tips. I prefer to tip in cash (and receive tips in cash) because it’s easier to distribute or pocket that than have the system tax it and split it to everyone else. However, that was no reason to be rude to someone for not tipping you (especially when your service was subpar at best) and the fact that I was about to cash tip her but she assumed because I didn’t tip on my card, that justified her being rude to me after I already paid.
My girlfriends and I just wanted to try this place for the first time before we came on Friday for their Halloween drink release, but now that’s done. I cannot frequent an establishment where the servers and management think it’s justified to be rude to costumers. I work too hard for my money to waste it on overpriced drinks, small food portions, and rude service. Would give it 0/5 for the...
Read moreI made a reservation here for my 28th birthday celebration a month in advance for 12 people. A week before, I added one friend who confirmed with me, making it a total of 13 people. I want to preface this review with the fact that 1. I am a Nashville native that grew up in East Nashville and has lived in Mexico City and L.A. - I have been to many bars and restaurants over the years, so I have a lot to compare this experience to. 2. I rarely have a large celebration for my birthday, so this was supposed to be a relaxed and special evening. 3. I never write reviews unless my experience was so terrible that I genuinely don't want other people to experience what I did, so here it goes. My party showed up twenty minutes early for the reservation because we wanted time to park and did not want to be late for the reservation and inconvenience the bar. They let us know we would be seated at our reservation time and to wait at the bar. Come time to sit down, they bring us to a table that fits MAYBE 8-9 people comfortably, so at 13, we were quite literally crammed into it. So crammed that there wasn't even enough room for two of my friends to sit with us, so they had to sit at the bar separate from my party the entire two hours. We asked if they had extra chairs for my friends to pull up, and when the manager came to the table to apologize, he explained there were no extra chairs and that the hostess had booked us in the wrong area for our party size and it was her mistake. After saying that there was nothing they could do and they admittedly messed up, he did not offer us anything to make up for their error. Not one drink was taken care of, and not one chair was found. My friends and I have all worked in the service industry, so we were all fully aware of how this situation should have been dealt with, and this was not it. Not wanting to ruin the night, we let it go and did not complain. Fast forward to my friend leaving a review today - the manager responded by saying we showed up with 15 people, and it was our fault! Tiger Bar, let me teach you a thing or two; When you mess up, make it right and apologize; do not blame the customer. I have added the text confirmation they sent me, which shows when I added the extra person to my group, and evidence of the final confirmation text showing it was 13 people since apparently this place likes to accuse others who spent their money there of...
