I recently found myself at the Hickory Plaza Shopping Center, mainly because the siren song of a good iced latte was too strong to resist (thanks, Starbucks!). While the plaza itself isn't going to win any awards for aesthetics, it served its purpose perfectly well.
Let's be honest, shopping centers aren't usually known for being pristine. Hickory Plaza falls in line with that – it's a bit on the messy side. There were stray shopping carts here and there, and the overall feeling wasn't exactly "upscale." However, it wasn't anything so bad that it detracted from the experience.
Here's what mattered to me: convenience and functionality. Hickory Plaza delivered on both fronts. It's located in a convenient spot, with easy access and ample parking (a huge plus in my book).
The real star of the show, for me at least, was the Starbucks. Let's face it, sometimes you just need a good coffee fix, and this Starbucks hit the spot. The staff were friendly and efficient, and my iced latte was exactly what I needed to beat the afternoon heat.
Beyond the Coffee:
While I only visited the Starbucks on this occasion, Hickory Plaza seems to offer a decent variety of stores. There's a Kroger grocery store for one-stop shopping, a dental office if you need a cleaning (though that's not exactly my idea of a fun afternoon!), and even a hair salon if your significant other drags you along (been there, done that!).
The Verdict:
Hickory Plaza might not be the fanciest shopping center around, but it gets the job done. It's convenient, has ample parking, and offers a variety of stores, including a fantastic Starbucks (in my humble opinion). If you're looking for a quick and easy shopping trip or a convenient caffeine fix, Hickory Plaza is a solid option. It might not be a place for a leisurely afternoon stroll, but for practicality, it gets a 4 out of 5...
Read moreThere needs to be more handicapped parking spots. I'm in a wheelchair and had to park way to far away and there were ten to fifteen spots open that were reserved just for grocery pickup. It's really kinda unfair for those who are handicapped. I have only been back there once and that was early in the morning. I used to shop only at Kroger's or King Soopers ( it's what Kroger is west of the Mississippi ), but with Walmart just down the street, I can't see going back, especially since I can park right up front at Walmart. I was disappointed because I have always been a loyal customer. Oklahoma is the only state that doesn't have a Kroger or King Soopers so I kinda know what I am...
Read moreThe parking lots are very crowded and disheveled traffic in and out through here. Some great stores in this plaza, but is chaotic on the outside. We avoid this area unless we pick up a Little Caesar's Pizza, stop by Tractor Suppy..... We feel the parking/driving area could be a little more organized. Also_ we avoid Kroger because we get such poor mobile phone service_ You can't check a recipe for an item you may have forgotten or get a text from home with a special request. The traffic and parking has no boundaries; it is chaotic...
