I'm really picky when it comes to gyms. With that being said, I've had membership to this gym for a year and a half now and I still love it. Previously, I had either memberships or trials to other gyms & during all that, I never really found a place that I was comfortable at or fit in. I found Chuze through an ad on Facebook and figured what the heck, $1 sign-up fee & $9.99 a month for membership…I’d give it a try. I went in and they let me tour the place to see how I liked it (they give trials too) before signing up. It was (and still is) super modern, clean, and relatively quiet for a gym. The first impression was great so I decided to try it out and I haven’t looked back since. The staff is so friendly, no one judges you there, people keep to themselves because they are hard into their workouts, and there is more than enough equipment available for everyone to use. They have personal saunas, hydro massages available, tanning, fitness classes, personal training, a number of new locations, and nice/CLEAN locker rooms. They have some rules that everyone abides by which is great if that’s what you are looking for, which I was. For example, people stay off their cell phones, there is no weight dropping allowed, & you always see people wiping down machines. It’s just such an upgrade from previous gyms I’ve been to. I had a membership with Family Gym prior to Chuze and I used to dread going. Parking was always an issue at Family Gym, every time I walked in they'd try to upsell me something, they'd bother me WHILE I was working out to see if I wanted to add training to my monthly plan, there were no lockers, it was dirty and so badly outdated, people were ALWAYS talking on their cell phones next to you, & they only had a few (or 1) of each machine so they were almost always taken. It’s not like that at Chuze, and I am so grateful. You just can’t get anything better for the price point. They also have a $19.99/month plan which allows you access to all fitness classes/saunas/massages/tanning, access to every one of their locations, and the ability to bring a guest with you every day (except weekends I believe) for no additional charge. In addition, they give rewards points to members which can be redeemed for free stuff. Love this place & I recommend them to everyone looking for a new gym. Oh, I also think it's pretty cool that they have their specific location names in huge letters on the wall, i.e. CHUZE NATIONAL CITY, CHUZE MISSION VALLEY. They can be nice to look at while...
Read moreGoing to the gym is what you make of it, less about the gym, more about yourself. That being said, positives about this gym are that they do a good job cleaning it, friendly staff, $160 per year excluding your first year's sign on fee of $40 (cheap), there is a wide variety of equipment to be used, usually I have pretty dynamic workouts with the equipment that's available, but there is a need to get creative.
Negatives, the scope of the equipment is for members that want easy- moderate difficulty level. Hardest you'll get at this gym are free-weight dumbbells (75 I believe), cables, straight bar (35), smith machines (25). There is no straight bar bench press, incline, nor squat racks. This gym gets packed quickly, for how many members they have, there is not enough space. Forget about getting highly sought after equipment during peek hours unless you sit on it and wait for someone to leave. There is a large turn over in staff, usually not a big deal, but sometimes the newer staff are... enthusiastic about greetings, they do their best though.
A note that is neither positive nor negative, their isn't any attitude at this gym, if you wish to be somewhere that you here weight clanging and dropping before you get in the door, people struggling, this isn't the...
Read moreVery disappointed with my experience after over a year and a half of attendance here. Unfortunately, the gym culture here isn't exactly about being respectful of members as the employees will tell you when you first join.
There is an elder man who always brings black coffee and wears crocs and makes it a point to hug as many girls as he can when he gets there. He usually gets to the gym when it opens. This man literally shouted in my face at 4am when he held the door open for everyone because my "nod" as a thank you didn't suffice to him. And when I asked him why he wanted to be like that with me at 4am, he said "don't piss me off" like what the hell? Upon telling the AGM, about the aggression made towards me, and was doubled down upon, I was told to avoid him. I was harassed, but I was the one being reprimanded. The shy AGM then said he would talk to him, AFTER his workout. I was expected to go back out there with this rude aggressive man who was getting in my face and making threats. It's a shame they don't know how to recognize and stop bullies. They did waive my 10 dollar fee to switch locations, but frankly if they didn't I'd only bring their performance up to corporate anyways.
