We watched a movie about pioneer life in the theater here, and it was very educational. Since this place is operated by The Church of Jesus Christ, I was a little worried about religion being kind of strongly imposed or something. However it was not like that at all. In fact in our package of tickets and so on there was a little card expressing that if we have questions about religion they should be discussed with civility. Only members of their church can enter the temple here and so this visitor center has a cutaway model of the temple which shows how the different rooms are laid out and what it looks like in case you are curious what it's like in there. The tickets for everything are free, but they just need to limit how many people show up to each thing at a time so they can get everyone on the carriage for example. The docents and guides which lead you through the different buildings, and rides are attired in period dress, and are very knowledgeable about everything from the period of the site they are trained to talk about. All in all this was a very educational, and interesting day among very...
Read moreDisappointed in the experience compared to when I had visited some years ago. Then, it was a respectful presentation with guides to explain things and answer questions. It seems in the effort to make the visitor center more interesting to children with interactive displays, the reverence has been lost. Children were running and screaming in the center. It was difficult to concentrate on reading info, no one was available to question, except at 2 info desks which were so crowded we could not even tell if one was selling admission or attraction tickets. The pubic space has been decreased from when I was last there too. I had looked forward to sharing this experience with my husband, but was practically embarrassed that I had been raving about this place to him for years. It does seem that the overall historic area is now improved with activities for families, historic buffs, and religious pilgrams. It was far too hot for us to take a walking tour though. Good to see people out & about and a historic site thriving. It was just not the experience I remembered or...
Read moreI had such a fun experience here. My kids really enjoyed them self! It seems to be pretty much run by volunteer missionaries. They do a great job telling us historical stories about the different families that lived in this area. They make it so real feeling! Buy the clothing that they are dressed in all the way to making sure the bakery smelled like fresh baked cookies. Don't forget to stop by the blacksmith shop. It's so educational and fun to watch! And the kids loved it because at the end they all received a Keepsake ring that they were able to bring home and remember our trip! Although I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have had many friends that are not of this faith bring their families here and enjoy it very much. If you are a history buff. Or enjoy seeing the way people of the past lived. You will enjoy...
