At first I liked the idea and was happy there was a gas station by the marina and i would be able to park around the area and run or excercise but I soon found by going around at night that alot of the young people that work this area get off work and go out to meet up and they don't really like being seen living a double life. Which is rediculous people don't want to be seen being happy. I find that odd. So, my experience is that once I was found out to be a human being observing other human beings the disposition of the people changed. A real weird dynamic change that I didn't expect. There was a something I would call vanity that appeared. Where once friendly servers and cashier's were now evasive and dismissive and even offended by my patronage. They seem to really repel friendliness and immediately i could tell they were perpetrating some odd suggestion based bias of possible crime in the area and maybe some illicit behavior or capacity of thier own. So, i still patronize the stores and area because I still excercise or perouse the area for the occasional conversation and of course...I'm single! I meet the dog walkers and occasional skateboarder and the seagulls and ducks are always as friendly if not more than anyone! There's plenty of locals and daily visitors so there's no need to feel over indulgent of the area. Plenty of shops downtown to allow you may bring a snack or lunch and just enjoy the visage of the marina or bother the shops for a fork or spoon. It's a cozy area that can be turned on its end to make you feel you will float to the surface like..well..they do make that allusion but there's a very nice public restroom in the area. All suggestion aside it's a beautiful area but do remember to sweep all suggestion aside. It can be gritty and even subtly hostile and ignorantly self defensive and overprotected. It's a great area to run or jog or excercise or even lift free weights. Exploit it! Ignore the negatives and go for the gusto! The apartments tend to promote some needed privacy but that's hooey! New Bern housing has ALWAYS attracted tourism not tamped it out!! Visit! View! Validate! But remember to push ahead and don't let the local hair get in your...
Read moreI have always liked Galley store and especially their employees. I buy some wine as well as attending wine tastings. It’s great to also have a local convenience store. So, I go into the store the other day and greeted by an unmasked middle aged man with dark, short haircut behind the counter. I was wearing a mask. I thought he should’ve had one on too. But that didn’t bother me as much as asking him a question about bread and he said he didn’t understand me like my mask was hindering my speech. I never had this issue in 4 months of wearing a mask. With the smirk on his face, I felt he’d mocking me because of his covid hoax refusal to wear a mask. I’m not returning there for gas or groceries in the near future. I guess I’ll check in here and there if he’s working or not. It’s a shame and I’ll miss...
Read moreStaying in the marina for an extended stay and have nothing but great things to say about the staff and the marina. I called a mile out and was met by the dock hand (sorry I cant remember his name but he looks like Santa). I was single handed so he helped with all of my lines and was very nice about it. The staff has been very helpful as well. The bathrooms are a bit of a walk if you are on the North end of the marina but after looking in the mirror I should probably be walking a few miles to the restroom.... I do wish they had laundry on site but there is a laundromat not far. I hear they have a...
