Okay, FOR New Bern, this is 5 stars.... For sushi in general, 3.5, so let's give Kuma 4 🌟 ! Miso soup (Excellent) Seaweed salad (delicious and super fresh). Sushi classics (Delightful but needs to be rolled better) as they were a tad lose. Dumplings (vegetarian) are good but have to be correctly sealed, as they opened when steamed. Specialty rolls, very good, no complaints. Teriyaki chicken, terrible. Cold, lacked flavor, as if they threw sauce on top of some sad chicken breast, it was very disgusting, but hey, this place is a sushi restaurant. Service (Trent or trey) good young man and attentive! Drinks on point! Cold beers, good cocktails, and soda. I'd definitely consider going to here if you haven't. I will absolutely be back.

Fabulous fabulous fabulous! The place is always packed when we’ve tried to go at night, so we were thrilled to see tables available at lunchtime today! We sat at the bar to get a good view of the sushi making area, and it was fascinating to watch. We ordered miso soup, the sassy roll, and the black dragon roll, and it was all delicious. This was not your garden variety miso soup, there was a depth to the flavor that I have never experienced before. The two rolls were equally excellent, and obviously very fresh. Both rolls were plated beautifully, and contained a perfect compliment of ingredients. We loved our visit to Kuma, and can’t wait to go back. What an exceptional addition to the New Bern restaurant scene!

20 stars if I could. We dined here tonight for the first time. We had the Wagyu beef/shrimp tempura Chef Specialty, Black Pepper Tuna Nigiri, edamame (of course), cold sake, and matcha tiramasu. Our server was knowledgeable, patient, and helpful for pairings. In fact, all the staff was polite, even to the guest who loudly asked if they served sushi (yes, that happened). Superior ingredients and plating compared to other sushi bars. Everyone around us had such beautiful, delicious looking plates, it was hard not to be curious! 1000% cannot wait to return and try more!!!

I’m disappointed. As the first downtown New Bern sushi restaurant, it sadly does not meet the expectations of a good one, especially for the prices they charge.

If you’re from the New Bern/ENC area, the best way I can describe my experience is being served Harris Teeter nigiri sushi on its sell by date - at least the salmon nigiri I got - and dazzled it up with unneeded toppings (sesame seeds, and I think sprouts). The salmon was pale and tasted like it was on its last serve-able day. The tuna nigiri tasted exactly like Harris Teeter tuna nigiri. The Tonkatsu ramen was below average and was served with spaghetti-like noodles, not ramen or other high quality noodle.

I’m tired of a lot of these Asian restaurants in the New Bern area serving low quality, high priced Asian cuisine. These Asian restaurant owners get away with it because there isn’t a large Asian community they serve who would hold them accountable. For those “in the know”, those who know what a quality Asian restaurant know what I mean.

If you want some of the best Asian food in New Bern go to Mon Asian on Glenburnie. I don’t work for them. I am one of many of their...

Update your hours.

You responded to my review AFTER updating your hours. Just admit you were wrong and you corrected your hours. I posted the picture so everyone who also drove a long distance would know the correct hours. Swallow your pride.

You are correct, I arrived at 3, I posted this review, made a recommendation on Google indicating you should update your hours and attached that picture as a reference for other patrons. You then updated your hours and replied to my review essentially saying "my hours have always been correct". You seriously saw me outside at 3 taking the picture and just admitted to it. Thanks for the fun ✌️ clearly you don't know how to handle criticism, good luck running that place into the ground, you'll be gone by next year.

Don't worry bud, I just uploaded a picture for you and everyone else to see the email I received from Google after I fixed YOUR hours for you because you had them posted incorrectly on Google. Nice try, but the truth always comes...

I'm a sushi fanatic who's tried it all—from numerous big cities to various beach towns and even overseas—but Kuma has some of the best sushi I've ever had. Plus, their staff is super friendly. I try something different every time and I enjoy everything on their menu. I'm constantly amazed at the sushi quality in the small town of New Bern. When I moved here, I wasn't expecting to have this gem of a restaurant! Also, at other sushi establishments, my husband and I usually order 3-4 rolls to share between the two of us, but at Kuma, it only takes 2-3 because of how large their rolls are—so you get your money's worth! Some reviews have mentioned their prices, but it’s not more expensive than the other restaurants downtown. I can't rave about this place enough; whenever I have friends and family from out of town, I always...
