Stepping into Storyland at City Park over the Christmas holidays felt like flipping the pages of a childhood storybook and leaping straight into the adventure. My girlfriend and I, armed with the spirit of the season, embarked on an enchanting journey that began with the mesmerizing Celebration in the Oaks and led us down the rabbit hole to the heart of Storyland.
As grown-ups, we're often told that magic is just for kids. Well, Storyland didn't get that memo. Each ride and game seemed to whisper, "Why should kids have all the fun?" So, we listened and let our inner children run wild in this playground of nostalgia and joy. The twinkling lights of Celebration in the Oaks set the stage, casting a spell that only grew stronger as we ventured into Storyland.
There's something about a carousel that makes you forget your age, and the laughter that comes with whirling around is ageless. The games, usually the territory of the young, became our battlegrounds for playful competition, where the biggest prize was a shared memory in the making.
As the evening unfolded, each moment felt like a scene from a classic tale, with us as the unlikely heroes on a quest for fun. Storyland, with its timeless charm, reminded us that adventure doesn't have an age limit, and magic can be found in the most unexpected places.
Our night at Storyland wasn't just about rides and games; it was a journey back to the carefree days of youth, a reminder that wonder never really leaves us—it just waits for nights like these to dance back into our lives. This Christmas holiday, we didn't just make memories; we lived out a story that we'll tell for years to come, a tale of two grown-ups who discovered that, under the right string of twinkling lights, they could...
Read moreWe got to the New Orleans City Park at around 10:20AM expecting the children's park areas to be open. Little did we know that Storyland and the Carousel Garden does not open to the public until 11am. A children's park that doesn't open to the public until 11am? In what universe does that make sense?
We ended up having to go to the always open playground and kill time with our two year old for 40 mins. Trash was everywhere; all over the playgrounds. The so called "Great Lawn" was a mess, although I see the potential for it to be a wonderful space. Additional trash cans would help, and there were quite a few cans already around, but many visitors just don't use them. Many people just don't seem to care and will drop trash even if there is a can 5 feet away. Over by the Pop Bandstand there were hundreds of strewn crawfish shells about 6 feet from a trash can. It seems some people just can't be bothered to act like normal human beings and take care of beautiful public spaces...
We headed back to Storyland at 10:55 and their were 5 young employees milling around at the entrance doing nothing... just waiting till exactly 11am even though a line was forming and 10 people were ready to pay to get into the park. (I would have given the employee's a break if they had actually been prepping to open, but the place was filthy as well, with trash everywhere once we got in. )
Overall, this entire park has such appeal, but the employees and many visitors just have such a pathetic "laissez-faire" attitude, that it will never reach it's potential.
Ah well,...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting the themed playground at Storyland, and it was a delightful experience. While the main amusement park section was closed for the season, the playground itself was open and proved to be a fantastic outing, especially for those with young kids.
The playground is wonderfully themed, offering a magical and immersive experience for children. Each play area is designed to ignite the imagination, with playhouses and slides that seem to have leaped out of a fairy tale. My children were thoroughly entertained and engaged throughout our visit, exploring every nook and cranny of this beautifully crafted space.
The entrance fee is $6 per person, which I found to be reasonable for the quality and uniqueness of the experience. It's not every day you find a playground that feels like a journey into a storybook world. This fee felt justified for the level of detail and care put into creating this enchanting environment.
In conclusion, Storyland's themed playground is a must-visit for those looking to give their children a day filled with imagination, play, and joy. It's a charming and safe place for kids to explore, and I highly recommend it. Four stars for an enchanting and...
