12Pell is a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Chinatown. It is well kept, clean, and organized. The staff are super friendly, welcoming and eager to help assist their customers. The interior is modern and sleek; you will find fashionable apparel and new hair & skin care products displayed on the shelves. (With regards to CDC compliancy, 12Pell is on top of their game. You will be asked to fill out COVID questionnaire prior to your appointment; upon entry into the store, your temperature will be checked and given hand sanitizer.) This is an excellent and high-quality barbershop. Tim has been my hair expert for the past year and I HIGHLY recommend him. He knows his craft and absolutely kills it every time he cuts my hair. He is highly experienced, patient, detailed, and friendly. I had grown my hair out for about two years and decided it was a time for a new look. Tim helped me step into a whole new season (check out before/after photos for transformation). He recommended hair products for me to use that wouldn't dry out my scalp (don't use products containing sulfates, parabens or alcohol). I have gotten multiple compliments about my haircut, all thanks to Tim. Hopefully, the message is clear: you NEED to see Tim. **And if you can't book Tim (his schedule does get filled quickly; I made the mistake of going to a less expensive, nearby barber... let's just say I got what I paid for...), then find the next available 12Pell barber. You'll be doing yourself a favor by supporting local business and getting a fresh cut from a quality barbershop.** Undoubtedly, 12Pell is helping reshape Chinatown into a vibrant community by honoring its past and casting new vision for its future. Don't sleep on this barbershop. Go head- book your appointment now

Pros: I've been coming to 12 Pell ever since I moved back to NYC last year and as a man with Asian hair, I can confidently say you'd be hard pressed to find a place that has more knowledge and technique on how to manage unruly straight hair and find the best hairstyles suited for Asian skin and faces, plain and simple. Every one of the barbers here are dedicated to the craft and can tell you everything there is to know about your unique hair and how to best work with it. My barber, Franky, no exception. Most barbers struggle with the unique growth pattern on the back of my neck, but Franky's managed to give me a clean skin fade or taper fade (I switch up on him regularly depending on my mood) every single time. He also does a damn good job keeping the top long, clean and textured the way I like it. Franky listens to your wants, takes into account your face shape and hair type, and will give you real feedback on what's possible and what's not, and has the technique to give you the best cut possible. He's my go-to. Book "Walk-In 3" online if you want to get a cut with him. Cons: I'll only dock a star from this place because for the price point, I definitely think a hair wash and a hotel towel should come standard. But considering the massive amount of popularity 12 Pell's come across, I can understand it's just not feasible with all the volume these guys bring in. Would love to see these guys expand further and build a bigger space that delivers a high-quality experience before and during the cut.

I've been looking for a new Barber since my "go to" closed after covid. I've tried a few places that looked good and had good reviews but didn't live up to the hype. But 12 Pell is an excellent shop. I had Tim and he was spectacular. He took the time to get to know what I was looking for and what I'd tried in the past. He explained exactly what he was doing and made sure I agreed with his plan. He spent time creating a very collaborative experience. His technique was polished and his gear was top of the line. I definitely got the best cut I've had in years as a result. He gave me some spot on styling tips specific to my hair type. My favorite part was that he meticulously reviewed his own work - tracking down any stray hairs and making sure everything was spot on: he's a real professional. The vibe of the place made it clear they were very "customer experience" oriented, and they nailed it. I felt comfortable and taken care from the moment I walked in. Every chair was filled (while maintaining excellent covid protections) which says a lot, and everyone there had good relationships with their clients. I've been to places where there was animosity between the different barbers and that's always awkward. The place is clean and well lit, calm music, a very relaxing environment. The price point is spot on, if not below market for what I got. I've spent a lot more for worse service and worse cuts. I'm ecstatic I found 12 Pell and that it had real substance and not just hype.

You will get a good cut if you come here. Don’t worry about getting a bad haircut because from what I’ve seen and experienced you won’t get that. I booked the consultation with scissor cut with Peter. I have a long midpart that was always awkward because of my previous barber but after coming to Peter 3 times it has actually grown out properly each time. It looks nice and the proportions are just how I want them. Peter gave me advice and answered all my questions regarding hair during the process. It’s honestly a great feeling that I don’t have to feel anxious during haircuts anymore because I know Peter got me. Also, If you care about every single little detail, make sure to remind them. People aren’t robots so you can’t expect them to remember every single thing. For example on my sideburns I prefer them to be pointy shaped instead of square shaped and I got them squared off last time. Should’ve reminded them because I’m very picky but it’s okay ! Not a deal breaker or anything because the cut still looked nice. I need to make sure to remind them next time is all. With all of that being said though, it does come out to be pricey (in my opinion, I’m a broke college student aha) scissor cut is $80 with Peter. So if you can afford it, it will be worth it. These young, enthusiastic, and happy gentlemen won’t let you down. (Attached image is a picture of me about a week after I got a scissor cut from Peter)

Upon arrival, I was greeted by a woman with a lovely smile and she asked who I was there for. She kindly offered my mom and I water, then Josh walked up to us and introduced himself. I showed him pictures of a famous Korean guy, which worked out perfectly because the hairstyle has a hard part where mine naturally was. He broke every step down: it was essentially a two block, the sides had to be a certain length for the top to drape over it the way I wanted, (later on) how to style it, and ultimately, the differences I would see in my hair versus the picture. While doing this, he walked me through the process of the cut, how much hair he was going to take off / leave on, and why very short sides (that I wanted) wouldn’t look good and in fact, ruin the haircut. Towards the end of the cut, he asked how I liked the sides. I was skeptical (to which he replied that he would shorten it if I didn’t like the result) until he styled the hair, then I understood shorter sides would’ve made the hair sit flatter on my head which would have ruined the entire style. Overall, it was the best experience I’ve had getting my hair cut in the city. Contrary to the normal small talk, we talked about relationships, he gave me some advice, shared stories. The place is immaculate. Insanely clean, old school with the wooden decor, spaced apart well; absolutely beautiful at 76 Mulberry.

Not sure where to begin but the vibe and professionalism of this Barber shop is top-notch. You are always greeted at the door along with someone taking your bag to store and asking if you need water. Thats a great start to white glove service right there for your customers. I recently booked my hair cut and consultation with Tim. Known Tim through our volleyball years back in the day and never knew he loved cutting hair. Tim was very professional, knowledgable and easy to talk to and work with. He was able to tell me the type of hair I have and different styles that can work depending on how short or long I want my hair. The products I will need to style my hair. Since it was my wedding month, I showed him a picture of a quiff haircut and he told me yeah we can do that. The time and precision that Tim had with my hair was amazing. Took about an hour for the haircut and consultation and worth it. They even take notes and send you a resume of your consultation. Highly recommend 12 Pell to get your hair cut for any special occasion or just your regular. Just hearing and watching the other barbers cut hair. They all have that professionalism and friendliness to keep their customers coming back. Definitely will be going back for my haircut and I live on Long Island to go to Chinatown. Don't forget to book your appointment.
