Maybe this place was once great but on my visit it was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. Big queue outside so I was expecting great things. 5 of Us seated together but service was terrible and food was bland. Main issue was they served us our rice dishes early but we waited an eternity for our two crispy beef’s and sweet and sour chicken. It was obvious they had forgotten about us, people who came in after were served food before us. Eventually we asked a server and he went and checked the kitchen, we had eaten a bit of the rice and chow main but was saving it to have with the main meat dishes. Server returned finally with some food, we explained to him we had waited ages and the dishes on the table were now cold, he took the away to reheat and we then sat there watching our meat dishes get cold waiting for the rice to return. By the time it did I had given up any hope, we tried to explain to the server the issues but he didn’t understand. Food summary: Crispy beef - not crispy Sweet and sour chicken - half decent but can get the same in England with better flavour at any regular Chinese. Chicken fried rice - bland with no flavour Chicken lo mein - bland, bland, bland, Egg fried rice - bland Spare ribs - nice Egg rolls- amazing best egg rolls I ever ate Shrimp with lobster sauce on rice - the most repulsive looking dish you will ever see, looks like prawns and rice floating in flem, not a lobster sauce. Can of coke - best thing they serve
So ignore the hype, whatever made this place great they have ruined through greed, maybe try looking after customers in the restaurant instead of focusing on deliveries. I genuinely cannot describe how bad a visit it was, the fact i queued up was...
Read moreI’ve come to this place several times and this past time really ruined my experience and diminished my whole view of the place. I would’ve given the food a 3 star it was okay, but not what I expected. The food this time was not the same, our food came out quickly but something just didn’t taste the same idk if they’ve changed recipes or what but it was significantly different. We ordered a decent amount of food, but I don’t personally think it was worth the 80$ we spent. I’d like to also mention throughout the entire lunch our waiter changed like three times for unknown reasons? And it just felt like we were being watched over the entire time we ate. After eating we tipped and were beginning to leave this short man who was not our waiter at any point began hassling us to tip more? Never in my life have I ever experienced this.. but this man practically chased us down to tip 15%? When we tipped 10%.. I don’t mind tipping more and I could understand if we maybe we did not tip or if we tipped only a dollar but this was not the case and it just seemed like they were just heckling us for more money… especially seeing as the person that sat near us literally only tipped 2$?! I don’t mind tipping, and I don’t mind tipping more but I found it just really ridiculous this man was like demanding us to tip more. This place has signs everywhere that say cash only, and they have nothing about wanting a 15% tip. The whole situation just felt very shady and I made sure voice my opinion about this experience as well. They won’t receive my business anymore after today, and I won’t suggest them for any of my friends or...
Read moreWe had high expectations since we kept seeing an extraordinary line wrapped around the block when we passed by - so we tried for a late lunch on Saturday - short line, still robust crowd, asking our fellow line waiters “why Wo Hop?” “tik tok!” We had the salt and pepper shrimp, the ginger and scallion lobster and eggplant in a garlic sauce. The shrimps were regular size (not jumbo, the lobster was good - fresh scallions and ginger - and the eggplant mushy and just not super attractive. Overall, the food was okay. The servers were attentive and prompt but when we asked clarity questions about the lobster dishes, we didn’t get any additional information on “one sauce and another sauce.” I asked if the eggplant was fried - “it comes in a black bean sauce or garlic sauce” so not answering my question- it’s not fried. The fried dumplings looked really good, they were pork so we didn’t order but if you go, and can eat pork, they looked good! Wo Hop is a different restaurant than Wo Hop Next Door. Also, they charge $1.50 for white rice 🍚 with your meal and like most others, only take cash. Overall, the food was okay, the ambiance was great - lots of people enjoying the experience and the feeling that excitement was happening around us was good. There are so many choices on that block of Mott street, I’d personally go to Hop Lee or Hop Kee on the same block before Wo Hop for the good food over an okay, TikTok experience. Will try Wo Hop...
