I recently enjoyed visiting Ferrara, the famous pastry store in Little Italy. I was instantly transported to a charming corner of Italy when I stepped inside. The delightful ambiance, with its warm lighting and cozy seating, made me feel like I was in the heart of the Italian countryside.
I was impressed by the service, which was fast, courteous, and always accompanied by a welcoming smile. The staff made sure my experience was nothing short of excellent, even when I decided to take my delicious treats to go.
Speaking of treats, the Éclair I tried was divine. The pastry was well-made, with a perfect balance of textures - light and fluffy, yet creamy and indulgent. It was clear that the pastry chef took great care in crafting such a delicious dessert.
But the real star of my visit was the coffee. Rich, aromatic, and full-bodied, it perfectly complements my sweet indulgence. Ferrara's brew will impress whether you're an espresso enthusiast or a coffee lover.

If you’re looking for authentic Italian pastries, timeless tradition, and genuine warmth in the heart of Little Italy, look no further than Ferrara Bakery & Cafe. I’ve been coming here for over 20 years, and I can say without hesitation—it remains one of my absolute favorite Italian bakeries in all of New York City.
Each year, without fail, I visit Ferrara’s to stock up on gifts for family and friends—especially during Easter, when I purchase their stunning uova di Pasqua al cioccolato, the traditional Italian chocolate Easter eggs. These aren’t just sweets—they are part of a treasured cultural tradition, steeped in memory and meaning.
This year, my schedule was hectic and time completely slipped away from me. I found myself scrambling just days before Easter to get the eggs—and of course, I couldn’t leave without grabbing a few of Ferrara’s lobster tails. Let me tell you: these pastries are divine. Flaky, golden layers of pastry with a creamy filling that’s perfectly balanced—not too sweet, just right. I meant to bring them home… but full disclosure: they didn’t make it. I devoured them in the car. That’s how good they are.
But this visit turned into something even more meaningful.
While at the bakery, I met a woman behind the counter whose kindness left an impression I’ll never forget. I explained to her that I wanted to purchase a special chocolate egg for my uncle. His mother—my beloved grandmother—had passed away just a few months earlier. He had been her caregiver for many years, and with no children or spouse of his own, I wanted him to have something heartfelt and traditional to bring a little light to his Easter.
This lovely woman took the time to listen and truly understand. She didn’t just help me pick an egg—she guided me to the most beautiful one, wrapped in an elegant orange silk scarf. It was more than just a gift; it felt like a hug wrapped in chocolate.
Her warmth, empathy, and attention made me emotional—and incredibly grateful. In the middle of the pre-holiday rush, she gave me the kind of human connection that’s rare these days. I didn’t catch her name, but I want to publicly say: thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness meant more than words can say.
To the team at Ferrara Bakery: you are more than a bakery—you are part of the soul of New York. Your pastries are iconic, your atmosphere is timeless, and your people are golden. I will continue to come back year after year—and I will always share your story.
Grazie mille, Ferrara. May your legacy continue for generations to come.

Read moreFerrara Cafe was a lucky find in Little Italy as it became a shelter while walking kids during a rainy day and especially heavy downpour. Tables were available and even though we were six, we were quickly accommodated and seated and the server Carmelo was friendly. We ordered coffees, pastries and gelato. The pastries were excellent, not too sweet and very fresh. The lobster tail was a highlight. Prices are high, $11 pastries, $5 kids orange juice and $6+ coffee, but you’re paying for the location and “renting” the seating space. The quality pleased the Italian family members and that’s high praise. Sorbet was forgotten but arrived after a reminder. Espresso roast was a bit too much on the dark side and had that intense burnt taste, but that’s personal preference. As we paid the bill we noticed that it had a “CC fee” included. We paid cash though and asked what the fee was. We were informed it was a credit card fee but not part of the total due. It was definitely included in the total due. Check online also showed credit card fees are illegal in NY. We let it go as it was just over $3, but definitely should not have, nor should you. Our youngest woke up at that time and we asked for a cookie to go. Carmelo quickly grabbed a tri-color and waved off paying for it but then told us that the manager wanted us to free up the tables. Not sure if the wave off and or asking to leave was due to us asking about the CC fee scam they’re pulling or us being there for almost an hour. The food and coffee arrived at 2:23pm based on a photo we took as it arrived and we asked for the bill before 3:06pm, based on the time stamp on the receipt. We weren’t planning on staying longer and I don’t think an hour at most is an unreasonable amount of time especially after spending $86 with the scam cc fee included. We checked and there was no line up or anyone waiting for a table and there were other tables available. What started as a great experience quickly shifted to a negative one. Try the Ferrara pastries at the take out window if you don’t mind paying a premium and make sure you check for the scam cc fee. Please do not pay it, ever, but especially when...
