Booking the flight was quite easy on their site. At JFK we went through check in very smoothly. The flight included a wheelchair for my 80 yr old mom. TSA was smooth. I couldn't check-in for myself online because I had my puppy with me and you are required to check-in at the counter. That also went very smoothly. HOWEVER, in San Francisco it was a nightmare. Nestor, the attendant at the counter was very helpful and thorough and when I asked if I could take my wine glasses with my carry-on he informed me that I could not. I thought I I put them all in my check-in bag but I didn't. Well, they went right through the scanner and no one saw them. NEXT, Nestor called for the wheelchair and informed me they would arrive from 5-10 min. Well, 20min later I went to the counter and was informed it would be less than 5min. The reason I waited so long for the wheelchair was because he was hanging out with a buddy chatting up a storm not far from us. He then proceeded to take us to the TSA line where we made the entire line with my mom on the wheelchair. When we got close to the gates he asked me which gate we were going to. If he had done his job he would've known the gate, just like the guy at JFK that knew exactly where to go. My mom thought the guy still had her boarding pass so my husband went to find him. My husband lost him rather quickly. Instead of going back to his station he walked into this quiet area and was sitting down. We then had to call for another wheelchair because when he left he said he had to go to other customers. The flight was full and they asked for carry-on luggage to be volunteered as a check-in. The staff at Alaska Air are very friendly. Be mindful that you can watch movies or listen to music if you have your own electronics. Their snacks aren't at all desirable. However, saving close to $200 per person is a savings of $600. I'll gladly take my own snacks. Flight was smooth and Captain was hilarious. Yes, I would fly with them again but I'll be reporting anyone from the wheelchair service if they are unbecoming to common decency. Oh, and back at JFK the wheelchair person was awesome. He even helped with getting...
Read moreMy husband and I were dropping off our 13 yr old daughter with 3 other teens. It was for a Leadership Course -for over a week. I was a nervous wreck with her flying cross country without me, as it was her first time flying without me. I honestly can’t say enough about Alaska Airlines. I never write reviews...ever but felt compelled to do so. Right from the start, the ladies at check in accommodated ALL of the children so they could sit together and made the parents feel so comfortable. They were so pleasant and customer service skills were top notch. They waived the U.M fee because someone in the group was old enough. So none of the other parents had to pay a dime. The older child, was still able to be walked all the way to the gate by his parents so they could see him off and say their good-byes, thanks again to the amazing staff at Alaska Airlines. Because originally they could not and the mom was upset. Next we get to the gate and they call the kids FIRST...by name to board before anyone else. They got to meet the pilot, take photos with him, they were given wings, and headphones and iPads for free to use for their long flight. The kids had such an amazing experience thanks to ALL the staff. That’s all you want, as a parent is to have your children be treated as you would treat them when you’re not able to be with them to make them comfortable and happy. The Alaska Airlines crew, from start to finish were amazing and I left the airport that day with tears of happiness because I knew all of our children were in good hands. I will always make Alaska Airlines my first choice when we travel from now on. Thank You Alaska Airlines for creating the Ultimate Customer...
Read moreEnd of an era now that Virgin is officially becoming Alaska. Not sure when it’ll disappear completely. Also not sure why they fly domestic out of JFK Terminal 7. It’s a tiny terminal that feels temporary, but the small size probably means security gets less gnarly, it certainly is on the tuesday morning I’m flying. They don’t even have a global entry line it’s so small, although having precheck means one needn’t remove one’s shoes, so that’s a nice perk. The security line is super inefficient but again there are few enough people that it works out. Virgin America generally is hands down my favorite airline from flight experience all the through to frequent flyer program, and I haven’t decided yet whether I want to try Alaska, especially since I’m not seeing that their prices are anywhere near virgin’s which were somehow often among the best priced. Anyway, terminal 7, no boutique food options that I’ve seen, not a ton of bathrooms, there’s a BA lounge. It’s quick and easy to get around, I think there are only...
