The bathroom situation at this theater is unacceptable. I attended 'Stereophonic' last night but had to leave at intermission after nearly being trampled over by other attendees trying to reach the restroom. At the usher's direction - who said the only bathrooms were in the basement (I was seated near the front of the stage) - I tried to make it down the stairs closest to me. The stairs were mostly blocked because the line of women waiting to use the restroom was stretching up these stairs and beyond. By the time I finally made it to the basement, it took quite some time to even get close to the men's room. Attendees were shoving and pushing and yelling, and nobody was moving. By the time I got to the men's room, a security guard was directing all the men to leave the basement and head up a different set of stairs; apparently, the line for the men's room had stretched up that set of stairs and beyond, which would have put me back where I started.
At this point, intermission was almost over, so I decided my best option was to leave the theater to find a restroom. 'Stereophonic' is a long show - it's almost 2 hours before the intermission. With such a long show, people are going to need to use the restroom. Lots of people. I left the theater and did not return for the second half of the show. The chaos wasn't worth it.
It's shocking to me that staff at the Golden Theatre think their bathroom situation is acceptable. It's not - in fact, I'd be shocked if they're not violating safety and/or health codes. I've never seen such a mess at any other theater I've visited.
I will never see a show at the John Golden Theatre again. Not only was the bathroom situation out of control, but theater staff was very rude about it all. I understand the nightly chaos must be frustrating to them, but it's not attendees' fault that they haven't figured out a better situation for the restroom.

I am saddened to see the sheer amount of single use plastic served to patrons of the Golden Theater.
In the span of just one play, hundreds of theatergoers created massive piles of plastic trash that will be sent to landfills, incinerators, and into the ocean.
We are in the midst of a plastic waste crisis that is devastating our local and global ecosystems. Plastics are made from fossil fuels. And by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish, and these plastics breakdown into micro plastics that are poisoning our bodies. Recycling is not a solution here, as 95% of the trash that gets sent to recycling does not end up getting processed.
It is up to venues like yours to offer better solutions and options to customers. By now, there are plenty of options to avoid plastic waste. For example, canned water. Aluminum can be infinitely recycled. You could also opt for canned soda instead of plastic bottled soda.
You could also encourage Theater goers to bring their own cups with lids for a dollar discount on wine.
Regardless, you must try something. It is unacceptable to create this much trash, multiple times a day over the span of months if just one show.
Plastics are killing us, and I hope that your theater, within this waterfront city, can do better by our local environment and by all who live here. Thank you for...
Read moreBS +++ You silly man with a blanket! What can I say about this show and theater without being too bias. First of, it's a clean and small venue. The seats are roomy and perfectly placed. The seats we got had slight obstruction but it was fine. The venue was however cold and did not do a good job with the smoke or smoking going on the stage. The smell and the smoke was literally getting stuck in the vents and getting blown to our faces that my son started sneezing, my wife's eyes started water profusely that most of the show she had her eyes closed, and I was getting a migraine. BUT!!! The show was so freaking good and the interactions and evolutions of their relationships was nicely done. This show deserves what it got. The talented cast needs to truly get on the road and tour and have an album set. My fave was masquerade! It had each butt cheek bouncing around my chair. Truly a great show! Glad we came to watch it and enjoyed the laughter, confusion, the fake smoke, and most of wall the trauma and tears.
Highly recommended! Visit and tell them Mick (ig: The_freakin_vegan) sent you! You will not be disappointed Trust me - I'm a vegan đ đ„
