Great facility for soccer, but not for baseball, softball and football . They are horrible, I mean there are muddy areas where the whole entrance is slippery to get into and someone can get hurt, I fell bad almost hurt my ankle (add more P rocks or make it a cement, possibly adding proper drainage in the back fields so that way it doesn't stay sopping wet and it's able to actually filter out somewhere, this will add a little bit of value to those that are looking for an athletic spot. Also, their fences have holes cut out in them, trash with multiple alcohol bottles, wood and debris everywhere. For all the money the park gets from the government as a city park, they can do way better than what they are doing right now. You see the front part of the park is all in its best appearance for those that drive by or just park in the front, but for whatever reason the city forgot about the back part of the park which is unacceptable. And, speaking of unacceptable there are people doing many inappropriate things in public there; recreational drugs, sexual things, defecating and urinating in public. The last one might be too due to the fact that the restrooms are closed until April, during the winter time and during the winter time they don't have porta potties available. They just barely came out with them a week or two ago so when you have your sports during the winter playing there for schools or recreational purposes, there's nowhere to go to the restroom, you should probably go before you get there and there's nothing really surrounding the area for you to stop in and just use. In order to park in the back FYI you have to have a key or somebody has to be using one of the fields with the key in order for it to get unlocked in you park in the back that's the only way. For everyone else you have to park in the front...

One of the highlights of Calvert Vaux Park is its serene waterfront setting. Situated along Gravesend Bay, visitors can enjoy picturesque views of the water and refreshing breezes, creating a peaceful ambiance that serves as a great escape from the bustling city.

The park boasts a wide array of recreational facilities, making it suitable for various activities. There are well-maintained sports fields for soccer, baseball, and softball, as well as basketball and handball courts. Additionally, fitness enthusiasts can utilize the track for jogging or walking, making it a great spot to engage in physical activities.

Families with children will appreciate the playground area in the park, which is equipped with swings, slides, and climbing structures. Moreover, there is a spray park where kids can cool off during the warmer months, adding an element of fun and excitement to their visit.

Calvert Vaux Park offers ample green spaces, providing perfect settings for picnics, sunbathing, or simply enjoying the outdoors. The well-maintained lawns and shade trees create an inviting atmosphere for relaxation and leisurely strolls.

For those with furry friends, Calvert Vaux Park is dog-friendly. There are designated areas where dogs can run and play, allowing pet owners to spend quality time with their canine companions.

However, there are a few cons to consider. One of them is the limited parking availability in the immediate vicinity of the park. Finding a parking spot can be challenging, especially during peak hours or on weekends. It is advisable to consider alternative transportation options, such as public...

The park is named after famous landscape architect Calvert Vaux (co-designed Central and Prospect Parks along with Olmsted brothers firm). It was built partially on top of landfill debris excavated during construction of Verazzano bridge. Waterfront trails are major attraction of the park for me. You can see the hulls of shipwrecks left from the time when small shipyards dotted shores of Coney Island creek. The park is home to many athletic fields. One of the downsides my winter walk was sights of trash along the trails and shore paths. That’s typical of many other shore parks in NYC with high population density where large slice of urban population feels entitled to leave garbage after themselves. Calvert Vaux Park (formerly known as Dreier Offerman Park) is an 85.53-acre (34.61 ha) public park in Gravesend, Brooklyn, in New York City. Created in 1934, it is composed of several disconnected sections along the Belt Parkway between Bay 44th and Bay 49th Streets. The peninsula upon which the park is located faces southwest into Gravesend Bay, immediately north of the Coney Island Creek. The park was expanded in the 1960s by waste from the construction of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, and was renamed after architect Calvert Vaux in 1998. Dear City Park Management, WHAT DID YOU DO!?! Why did you have to cut so many perfectly healthy grown trees?!? I am literally crying looking at the previously gorgeous naturally picturesque park looking so bare now! The growing trash you could care a little about - it is still there piling up at the most scenic spots, but someone thought the trees got to go! I'm speechless. Those trees don't take a couple of years to grow they need decades to become real, strong, and healthy. I want to know WHY!?! UPDATE a year later: THEY CUT MORE TREES, THE GARBAGE IS STILL THERE.
