If you want to see an example of the large historic Church of the Intercession in upper Manhattan, set in a large garden and cemetery with notable men such as James Audubon and John Jacob Astor buried on the grounds and a monument to another Astor who had perished in the Titanic disaster, this is the place to visit. Former Mayor of New York, Edward Koch, is also buried here.
The location is bucolic and serene with Hudson River views. The impressive Church of the Intercession, circa 1910-1915, seems ancient. The grounds surrounding the church are actually Trinity Church's uptown cemetery and encompasses about 23 acres in total area, divided on both the east and west sides of Broadway from Riverside Drive to Amsterdam Avenue and between 153rd and 155th Streets. It is a unique place in New York City.

It is connected to an on-site cemetary. I sat in with their choir. The rehearsal space is just off the chancel space. I especially enjoyed the service because it was bilingual (English and Spanish). Prayers, h yuh mns and the sermon were done in both languages alternately. After the service, a lovely reception was held upsatirs in a spacious gym/hall. The food was tasty and the wait time was pretty good as well. I look forward to returning for...

Our choir director and organist passed away during COVID, our priest-in-charge retired and the interim priest-in-charge shut down our music program. In addition, I was forced out of the city by the mortgage’s inflation of rents. I am continuing to participate as a congregant from my current digs in Dunellen, NJ, while urging that we #AbolishTheMortgage so that our parish, city, state, and country does...
