Wonder Washington Heights — Restaurant in New York

This is a brilliant concept and much needed in an area that's still developing its range of restaurant offerings. I tried the Tejas BBQ pulled pork sandwich along with coleslaw and potatoe salad. The order was MEH. The sandwich was passable, but the potatoe salad and coleslaw reminded me of what you'd get a school cafeteria - certainly not up to par with the reputation of Tejas BBQ! (Don't order the sides!). I'll try Wonder again to see if it's worth it. The staff were friendly and the location is spotless. But for now, I'm convinced that quality take out still comes from mom & pop restaurants.

Update: I tried Wonder in Chelsea just to see if the food downtown was any better. I ordered from Sri Sri Pai and got their tofu drunken noodle dish and Thai salad.

PROS: salad was very fresh and was a large portion. The noodles were also a decent portion.

CONS: the noodles were disappointing. The dish was basically plain rice noodles, some veggies and tofu, with some kind of Asian-inspired sauce doused on top. It was basically A NOTCH BELOW the frozen pad thai you get at Whole Foods. A waste of money!

My two experiences thus far does a great disservice to the chefs whose names are associated with Wonder. I'm leading to believe that if you want the simplest dish: like a salad or French fries, then it will be fine - but DON'T EXPECT RESTAURANT QUALITY for anything more complex.

I was informed a half hour after the order was placed that Wonder didn’t have one of the items I ordered on its app. I was offered a replacement that came from one of their other “restaurants”. As a result I mysteriously had text alerts about deliveries from Bobby Flay that was confusing. Ultimately I received just one of the items I ordered from the first delivery person, then a second delivery person arrived with another part of the order. In conversation with what was maybe a text bot, I was told that the rest of my order was somehow lost and because it was late, they couldn’t fulfill the order. Then I was asked if I wanted a credit or a refund. Umm, yes. I asked to be comped for the entire ridiculous experience but was told that’s not possible. I ordered a delivery given I’m on a super healthy diet (no carbs, no sugar and no alcohol) so I tried them out. Went for a custom salad bowl. The beef souvlaki was tasty, even if a little cold, but the spices it was cooked in made it really enjoyable. My order was spot on in every detail (I liked the order accuracy very much!), everything I asked for was there, and the sauces (Lemon and Harissa) and veggies were super fresh, you can tell it’s made with love.
