I went to the library today with my friends and their children, we were seated on the rug area in the children's section. We were pretend playing since there is a kitchen and a washer in that area, when a young lady with light brown/blond hair told us very rudely that a class could not be conducted in that area, I tried to explain to her that I was not conducting a class that we were pretend playing with the children to which she responded that she did not care what we were doing but we needed to leave that area and go to the tables. She was rude and condescending and that was no way to speak to someone, no matter who they are. It's a public library and if pretend play is not allowed in that area why have a kitchen in place, make it make sense! Well, to make the long story short I am a city employee that was very disappointed with the treatment that we received and I reported this branch! The library needs the community to function therefore treat people with respect. Again, if play is not allow then remove the kitchen area, besides, a kitchen play set in a library makes no sense. It would be really disappointing to see this library shut down due to staff not having the proper professional etiquette to address people in a proper manner even if you thought something else...
Read moreI love this library. I even asked the nice ladys that work there if my daughter can play with the toys while I print out for activities for her because she's behind from kids of her age and they let me. But on Fridays the 27 of September around 12-2pm I needed help printing some things because it wouldn't let me and I went up to ask this lady and since I saw her on the I wanted until she was done but instead she told what happen and I asked her where do I put the money so I could print and she started talking to me in Spanish and told me just to press print and the paper would come out. Like come on I been in this country since I was 5year old. I went to school here in long island there was no reason for her to talk to me in Spanish i found that really rude! And. Also she didn't even help me! So I just went back to the computer and took pages out so I could get the minimum witch it was 5pages per kid since she didn't wanted to help me and she comes up to me and asked me where is my kid when my daughter was come back and forth to me. And then I answer her in english once again. I went to get some books with my daughter and left. I will come back only because I live 4blooks away from my house but I'll just come at a...
Read moreI brought my 3-year-old daughter to the second floor on August 25th around 4:50 pm. She saw the children’s room and was excited to explore. Two staff were inside, and one of them repeatedly and very rudely said only three words: “We are closed!” My daughter could clearly see other children still in the room, which confused her and made her want to join. When I asked what was happening, the staff just kept repeating the same phrase.
I said we would just take a quick look around, and the staff replied, “I don’t know what to look at.” After my daughter finished looking, I guided her out. Before leaving, I again asked politely what they were doing, and the staff member kept saying “We are closed! Ma’am you have to leave now. I’m telling you!” She even brought me to the front desk, where I explained the situation, but the man there only asked, “What do you need? Do you need anything else?”
I understand rooms may close for cleaning or other reasons, but the way this staff member handled the situation was unnecessarily rude, especially in front of a small child. A simple, kind explanation would have made a big difference. Families should feel welcome and respected here,...
