Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir People in New York jog anywhere, including on a busy bridge next to lots of cars with not so great air. On the other hand, this running track inside the Central Park offers serenity. I am too lazy to run, but I love walking on this track, looking at the skyscrapers that’s only a few miles away, yet tranquility in the area makes me feel as if I am in Westchester. I love looking at the reservoir while walking, especially when the water fled away with the sun; I am sure Arthur Rimbaud would have appreciated the scene. The track isn’t rubber made, so it gets wet after it rains / snows, but you see a number of joggers, regardless of conditions.
It’s just a reservoir surrounded by a track, so there’s nothing too much about this area to be touristy. Yet, I suppose the view of the skyscrapers with the water attracts people. Along with the joggers, you do occasionally see people taking pictures. On the eastern side, there are a few touristy spots in the neighborhood, including the museums such as Guggenheim Museum, the Jewish Museum, the MET, and the Frick. My wife and I were enjoying a 2 week vacation in New York, NY starting on Wed, Sept 4th 2024. We jumped on the subway from near our brownstone apartment in Upper Manhattan on Tuesday, Sept 10th to Columbus Circle in Downtown. We walked across to Central Park and rented a couple of bicycles. The view, the reservoir, the breeze… coming here always bring peace to me. I usually come during the weekend, having a walk in the surrounding areas and also stopping by at the Met afterwards. Or before :)
It has jogging tracks and benches along the area so you can rest for a while if you are strolling the area. It looks wonderful during spring with all the blossoms. But my fave is the Fall, as the trees change...
