Dive into a whimsical world of frozen delights at Glace, nestled in the charming Carnegie Hill on the Upper East Side. This isn't just any ice cream shop; it's a culinary wonderland where every scoop is a masterpiece, and even the cones are gluten-free marvels. Imagine stepping into a pastel-hued paradise, where the air is sweet with the scent of Sicilian pistachios and the zesty tang of yuzu sorbets.
At Glace, the menu reads like a poet's dream. You'll find classic flavors, but oh, they're anything but ordinary. The vanilla isn't just vanilla; it's like a creamy hug from a Madagascar bean. And the banoffee? It's like a mischievous dance of banana and toffee on your taste buds.
But wait, there's more. Ever had a cold brew flavor that wakes you up better than your morning coffee? Or a matcha that's so authentic, you'd think you were in Kyoto? And let's not forget the pièce de résistance: the toasted almond flavor, an homage to the Good Humor pop, that will transport you straight back to childhood summers.
Don't even get me started on the sundaes. They're not just sundaes; they're edible stories. The Eton Mess is a merry chaos of meringues and fruits, while the ice cream profiteroles are like little clouds of heaven. And if you're feeling adventurous, try the baked Alaska - it's basically a culinary performance on a plate!
But Glace isn't just about what's in the bowl or cone. It's about the experience. The staff are like friendly wizards, crafting concoctions with a smile. The decor? It's like stepping into a chic Parisian café that decided to have a summer fling with an art deco ice cream parlor. And the atmosphere? So cozy and inviting that you might just forget you're in the heart of New York City.
In conclusion, if Willy Wonka decided to make an ice cream shop for grown-ups, it would be Glace. It's a place where every lick is a story, every scoop a memory, and every visit an adventure. Whether you're a local or just passing through, missing out on Glace would be like skipping the cherry on top of life's sundae. So go ahead, indulge in a little scoop of happiness. You...
Read moreI hate to say it but I was less than impressed with their products. The viral Frozen Hot Chocolate (and variations of) as well as the Glacier drinks are very Instagrammable. They are definitely aesthetically pleasing, and they do taste good. But are they extraordinary? I don't think as much. The offerings wouldn't warrant another trip all the way uptown for their treats. The torched marshmallow was tasty. It wasn't overly sweet and the torching gave it a good smokiness, but overall, it was not that innovative. The Glacier is a glorified milkshake with a Magic Shell like coating. The servings aren't very big but pricey at $12 for a meager 8oz (or less) cup. I will happily pay for quality, but this was a miss for me.
Perhaps, more off putting to me was the service we received from the staff member. We were first timers and we asked a lot of questions. We were trying to understand their offerings and he grew impatient with us. He seemed to want to take our order and just dismiss us from the shop. He sloppily drizzled chocolate on the Frozen Hot Chocolate and almost grunted while begrugdingly putting the drink on the counter. By the end of the exchange, the experience was transactional at best. I understand we asked a lot of questions, but as I mentioned, this was our first time visiting. We actually were very enthusiastic about making the trek to this shop we'd long had on our list for our trip. We were ready to be dazzled by their drinks and tell everyone about this place. But this employee thoroughly deflated any excitement we had and we walked out of there feeling admonished. A bit surprising considering he should be one of tbe biggest and best brand ambassadors and gracious host. If I were a business owner, I would want my customers leaving my shop feeling great about their experience, not that you were an annoyance and dismissed.
Overall, I'll rate their menu items two stars (1 for presentation and 1 for taste), but customer service was at an...
Read moreThis place was an absolute highlight of my trip to New York! If you’re visiting during the winter months, it’s the perfect spot to warm up with a unique and indulgent treat. Their signature hot chocolate is unlike anything I’ve ever had before – it’s rich, velvety, and deeply chocolatey, with a texture that’s slightly thick, making every sip feel like pure decadence.
The marshmallow cream topping is out of this world – soft, fluffy, and melts beautifully into the drink. You also get a wide variety of toppings to customize your drink to your liking, which adds to the fun and makes it feel truly special. If you’re a fan of ice cream, you’ll love their options, too! The ice cream is of exceptional quality, with plenty of flavors to choose from, allowing you to mix and match with the hot chocolate or enjoy it on its own. The ability to create different combinations makes it a spot you’ll want to visit more than once.
Prices range between $12-15, which I found to be absolutely fair given the premium quality and the experience. Despite the high demand, the service was fast, efficient, and friendly. The staff was well-organized, and even with a line, it moved quickly.
One thing to note: there aren’t any seating areas or places to stand and enjoy your drink inside the shop, so be prepared to take it to go. That said, the atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming, and the presentation of the drinks is so beautiful you’ll want to snap a picture before diving in.
If you’re in New York, especially during the colder months, this is an absolute must-try! It’s not just a drink – it’s an experience. Whether you’re a hot chocolate enthusiast or just looking for something special, you won’t be disappointed. Highly...
