Rating here a 3.8. We were in the area and decided to visit. My sister loves their macarons, so we made the stop. We lived in the area for years prior, so familiar with this spot. However, the experience this time was a bit cold. The cashier was not exactly rude, but dismissive. Felt like she wanted to rush us off to serve others. I did notice another review of a rude barista and giving dirty looks, I'll wildy assume it's the same woman. I ordered a chocolate chip cookie ($3 or $5) for myself and 6 macarons ($2.95 each). The cookie itself was a bit on the dryer side, lacked a bit of salt for that balance - judt too sweet perhaps. Not inedible. But only after sprinkling it with some sea salt. Overall, this is a neat spot in the area. But I am huge on customer service. With that said, I would not return here. Though the atmosphere is lovely, the help was unwelcoming. Management, if you want to be a long standing staple in Prospect Heights, hire people who enjoys serving others. Also, seems there's a price and quality issue. Certainly things to improve on.

To be honest, when I saw the delicate desserts were served with paper plates, my heart has already sinked a bit before I started tasting them. It lowered the overall dining experience... (it was understandable tho as only one friendly boy was serving the entire café) * Mille-Feuille Same as the bakery name, I supposed this would be its signature cake. The top feuille layer was caramalized. However, the three layers of feuilles were not crunchy and the custard cream was thick and unsmooth - which gave an impression that the cake was not fresh enough. * Apricot Tart The preserved apricot was bit too sweet for my flavor, yet the baked cake underneath tasted quite nice. * Cafe au Lait Average taste. Appreciated that they used Oatly for making coffee. Worth Returning? Maybe not

"Delight in every bite" aptly describes this enchanting bakery, a haven for sweet-toothed aficionados. From the first glance, the display of colorful macaroons and French pastries captivates, promising a symphony of flavors. Each macaroon, a perfect blend of crisp and chewy, bursts with unique, well-balanced fillings. The pastries are a testament to culinary artistry – buttery, flaky, and light. The ambiance, warm and inviting, complements the exquisite taste experience. Exceptional service adds to the charm, making every visit memorable. This bakery isn't just about indulging in desserts; it's a journey through sublime textures and tastes, a celebration of pastry perfection.

My one star is not for the food at this place, but the unsanitary way that the employees serve/ handle the food. The pastries are really great and delicious. I enjoy everything that I've gotten but the hygiene of the people that works there is killing me, as a person who struggle with germs. I have major issues with germs. I just can't take it. I was there last week and there's a new lady working, I watched her cough into her hand, she did not sanitize her hands, clean them, put her gloves on nothing. I asked for a pastry and with the same hands she picked up the pastry. Not only did she pick up the pastry but her hands touched it, I was so grossed out. She gave it to me and I still took it because I had already paid, and I was so aggravated and pissed that I just took it and left (I did tell her next time wear a gloves). It's still in my refrigerator right now I couldn't eat it, ( $9.00) wasted. But it's not the first time the lady who currently works there I went there one time and she's making my latte, and she's on the phone talking over it. Then she paused to continue having her conversation with whoever it was on the phone while my drink is just open there, and she's just talking over it, and I just walk out. Management/Owners, please encourage your employees to wear gloves. They are serving things to customers that we have to eat. I haven't been back to this store and I don't think I'll go back, I just can't deal with the unsanitary way employees...

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. We ordered a birthday cake. It took 30 minutes to place the order and multiple emails because the person working in the store refused to assist us. the next day, the owner canceled our order by mistake. the owner was on the phone with the employee trying to verify what happened whilst I was in the store- hoping to pick up the order. Initially, I was told that we were the ones who cancelled the order. After I provided proof, that it was not us, they accepted it was them who did it. The employee in the store told me ā€œit was actually the owner who canceled itā€. Mistakes can always happen, but I cannot still fathom how the owner did not ask to speak with me directly, and apologize for the mixup. Instead he only spoke with the employee who told me ā€œyour order has been refunded, I don’t have a cake for you, there is nothing else I can doā€. Nobody followed up with us by email or anything like that. I work in the services sector myself, and I have empathy for human errors. However, I have no patience for lack of professionalism and...

Short Review: Great Service, Great Croque Monsieur, Great People, WiFi, Power Outlets, Great People. After 5.30, everything to the left of the cash register is half priced.

Long Review: My friend lost her handbag on a bench across the street from this cafe, when she had a flight to catch. While searching, we walked in here to ask if they'd seen anything. They gave us water, offered free coffee, let us use their WiFi, charged my phone when it died, gave us their contact information so that we could follow up with them in case they did find her handbag later, and they let me use one of their personal phones to make a call. They showed genuine concern and cared about helping us out. My friend and I cannot thank the two individuals enough.

We ended up finding the the bag, and my friend made it to her flight. Only because the two gentlemen working here assisted us.

I came back and asked for a recommendation of what to try - they suggested the Croque Monsieur, and they didn't steer me wrong. I had a fun time eating it.

Definitely walk in here and...
