I love this spot. It's so great to have a world class facility in the Bronx that's 15 min from my house. It's clean, it's quiet, people there are kind. The pool is huge and plenty of space to get your laps in. The lifeguards are friendly and will give your tips on improving your stroke. The patrons are friendly and warm. I love the weight room upstairs. 3 racks, treadmills, lots of dumbbells and equipment. And the best part??? People rerack their weights and don't slam stuff!!! I was a member at Blink and I watched people take great joy at slamming dumbbells on the floor, load up a barbell and leave all the weights there then are ready to fight you for calling out their bad behavior.
I took 2 classes but I didn't find any benefit for myself. I'm also a certified personal trainer and have worked in gyms and run classes. What I experienced were unprofessional, unprepared instructors that didn't really give me the cardio or muscle workout I was looking for. Hopefully they got better and other people enjoy their classes.
There is one downside....upstairs last week, I put my stuff in the locker and when I opened the door saw roaches. I don't have them and don't want to bring them home. It's probably from someone's stuff and they hitched a ride to the gym. I left the front desk staff know. However I will not be putting my belongings in the those lockers and if I do, it will be in a plastic bag, tied very...
Read moreUPDATE So after almost a year of coming here, the hours for the sauna and steam room are still terrible! I thought this would have been resolved by now. For example, yesterday the pool was closed from 3:40 to 6pm. Then open from 6-7. But the Y is opened until 8 or 9. This is all the time with the erratic hours. I still don't understand why the spa area isn't just open when the facility is open. It's beyond frustrating. Also, with the spa area closed so often, you think it would be cleaner. It's obvious (especially with the steam room) that it isn't cleaned regularly. Don't go in there barefoot!!!
This facility is beautiful. Huge upgrade from the one in New Rochelle. I've only been a member for a few weeks, so I can't give an in-depth review. What I can say is that I LOVE the sauna and steam room. My biggest complaints is that the hours for using each of these are all over the place. About 2 hours in the morning, 3 in the afternoon, and then less than 2 hours in the evening. It would be more convenient if the spa was available from open to close. Also, this might just be a personal thing, but I hate that the water from the fountain is room temperature. So if you want cold water, bring a frozen bottle...
Read moreAs a parent: My children 12 & 10 LIVE the Y. We utilize just about every aspect they have to offer. Between both kids they have taken the ballet, karate, basketball, swimming lessons, and cooking classes, my son now uses the fitness center as well as my wife and I. The youth programs have been one of the largest benefits for my family.
As for the staff, myself included, can be very hit or miss. I believe we all are friendly, knowledgeable, approachable people. However, there are a few who can be sarcastic 🙋🏼 (#sorrynotsorry), have attitudes, or just be having a day. We're all human. Error & miscommunication happen everywhere.
As a member; I believe the facility to be a marvel. The architecture is amazing the bond with nature the building has is mesmerizing. I have been a member of the YMCA for basically my entire life. I have family that works at the YMCA outside of NYC. And I have never seen a facility as up to date, as clean and upkept as this one. As long as we as a community keep this place immaculate it will be here, beautiful and available for...
