Stop & Shop — Attraction in New York

Let me start with the micro managing which door one may walk thru - instead of the 4 doors, 2 entrance & 2 exit that there used to be there is now 1 exit door all must walk in & out thru.

The shopping carts are kept in the vestibule inaccessible to the customer! Eyerolls. The toilet paper on sale was also inaccessible.

The last register which I was told was open - Register 5 on Sept 6th 2024 Closed at 9:42pm. The store closes at 10pm but the LAST proper checkout was cleaning her belt, had a wire blocking the entrance and the girl verbally stated "I'm closed", so I had to go back to the Do-it-Yourself Checkout which I have great difficulty with. I was there until the staff minding those registers told me Register 5 was open, so I departed that Do-It-Yourself area only to arrive at Register 5 and be told by the employee that she was closed. I find it outrageous that the last proper register would close 19+ minutes prior to the store closing. So back to the Do-it-Yourself Register area I went.

As usual I had great difficulty scanning my items, as the machine too likes to micro-manage whatall you do-- for ex if one has 3 12 packs of Diet Pepsi one is unable to scan the same one 3x bc it will keep repeating to put the item in the bagging area. How about it not worry about whereall I put my items, just scan my items & let me pay.

Naturally this wasn't the worst of it. There was this one lass staring at me with a scowl on her face. So I said, as I asked the employee for help, "not sure why she's staring at me" and instead of simply not staring at me any longer, she pipes up that she is not staring at me & that she works there. So? That's even worse!! You work for the store & you're scowling & staring me down because I had the audacity to declare that I felt it was ridiculous that the last proper register twas closed at 18 minutes prior to the store closing! That is the truth!! I absolutely do feel it is ridiculous. I feel it is unacceptable too. I worked Register at supermarket for 4 years & had other forward facing job positions & never would I have been permitted to close my register- especially as the last one- early.

Truly the store in my opinion is not being managed as well as it could be -- from the expired items on shelves (bc staff is not restocking properly!), to the cleanliness, to this incident with the open register. Look I went in there to grab some lottery tickets & then get some soda & a few items. The Customer Service Counter CLOSES AT 7. LOL. It used to close at 10pm & the store used to close at 11pm. So now the store close 10pm, but the Customer Service area closes at 7pm! It doesn't open until 8am either - I found that out two Tuesdays ago at 7:46am.

I suspect the alleged employee staring + scowling at me was the Manager too. Was she trying to intimidate me? I know not but it did not work and I am still going to say how I feel. Right is right & wrong is wrong! And closing all the registers except the Do-it-Yourself ones basically 20 full minutes prior to the store closing is wrong... as is scowling at me for verbalizing my displeasure.

I'm getting tired these days. I am. I'm tired of these outrageous prices I am paying everywhere & I am tired of dealing with rude or hostile attitudes of employees too. I'm also tired of the expiration dates of so many items being too fast approaching- & again that is a function of how they're restocking the shelves. This has been consistently like that for years! They should put the new goods in the back & the soonest expiring in the front instead of sticking the most recent right in front pushing back the older goods. This is SYSTEMIC with this store. This Stop and Shop was pretty decent back when it first opened. After it's first two to three years of being open the service began to decline. Now it is completely horrible. I hardly go to this location due to the extremely poor costumer service. Hardly anyone at this location is professional. Most of the staff act as if they don't want to be bothered. Majority of the people working there are black and give off the black people are lazy and don't want to work vibe that they are accused of. When I go shopping, I prefer to go early to beat the crowds, but it seems no matter what time you go to this location there is always only one lane open, two at most. This location is short staffed and seems to continue to be on a downward spiral in quality.

Some time in August my girlfriend and I went to this location to shop, she had to use the restroom, when she went in she came back out upset because of how filthy the bathroom was. There was feces and blood in the stalls. We went to the staff to make a complaint and all we were told was "Yes, we know. The beach goers come to use our restroom and mess it up." So the staff knew of the condition of the women's restroom, yet acted as this was a normal thing and did nothing about it. It was so bad that I had to accompany her to the men's restroom since it was cleaner.

This location seems to have a problem with matching it's products with sale tags. When shopping here if you grab a product that is on sale be sure to check your receipt afterwards as not everything on sale will ring up properly. There is also the issue of expired meat on shelves at this location. When shopping you always check the expiration date, but at this location, it is critical as there are a few times that the meat department doesn't seem to remove meat that is expired. I have a few photos of beef on the shelf that is discolored and a day past it's expiration date. There is a dark skinned lady with glasses that works in the meat department that has a very bad attitude. The seafood department isn't any better. The black woman in the seafood department also has a bad attitude. There is a short black man that also works in the seafood department who has poor costumer service and some times wears a durag on his head as if he were home in bed...

With this Stop and Shop's poor performance I am skipping it more and more for stores like Keyfood and Trader Joe's. The Stop and Shop in the Belle Harbor location 112-15 Beach Channel Dr, Rockaway Park, NY 11694 is the much better Stop and Shop. But no Stop and Shop is better than sorely...

This location always closes 10 minutes before 10p.m. When I asked the young man why, his reply was, the security guard always does it. That doesn't make it right. Also, its obvious that there is new management. Its always dumpy, filthy with trash, filthy floors and never, ever will I find a cart. Leafy produce looks old. Forget about finding a shopping basket. I also overheard a Hispanic supervisor make a comment about, "We are near the projects, I can't wait to close the doors". Thats just distasteful, she didn't care about myself and another shopping overhearing her disgusting comments. Update.... Christmas Eve 2017, they closed the doors about 45 minutes earlier than advertised for holiday hours. NOT COOL. About 16 shoppers were outside upset, while the rude security personnel told everyone to go home as he barricaded the doorway with a fliers rack and held the doors closed as patrons inside were exiting. I requested the Store Manager got no reply. I left with my husband, when patrons began to get loud. Usually, the Store is always messy, poorly upkeep. Bless your soul if you can find a cart for shopping PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THE RAW MEATS. Seafood is ridiculously overpriced. I stopped shopping for their meats because they were expired on at least 7 occasions, between my experience and my husband, the shelving for the raw meat is always bloody, wet or dried, and cruddy looking. Their prices can be a bit ridiculous in comparison to Key Food which is located about 6 long blocks away. BTW....Key Food has stepped up their game. Very worldly with products on the shelves, freshest clean meats, very fresh produce and better pricing. Key Food is worth the walk when you don't feel like driving. Jazzy was nasty and ignored me when I asked for help 2 times, I had to raise my voice loud and she took it to another level so I did also June 19, 2025. Check your cameras. I have been coming here for my food but key food is my go to for fresh meats. You underpay your employees to stress them out and they take it out on customers. I’m NOT accepting this mess, I’m an DA in Queen and I love being misjudged out here in Far Rockaway and having to teach lessons...
