I walked into the store because I saw a sign on the door advertising glass blowing lessions. I thought it sounded like fun. Even though when I walked in it was 1 minute passed closing the owner was very helpful. He provided me with a lot of information about the classes what I could expect to make and how much it costs. For the various classes ornaments ($38), paperweights/pumpkins ($65), or vases ($175) seemed very reasonably priced. The owner went on to say that the classes are for anyone aged 7 and up with as much hands on experience as you want in the course. For those sceptical of the pricing I was shown samples of each and in my opinion it is well worth the money. Anyone can purchase a vase, but to say you made it is another story.

For those of you who are just visiting and are worried about the glass piece you just made breaking on the way home, the owner said that they could ship the finished product home for a small additional charge.

I walked out of the store with a better understanding of what the lessons entailed. And I am fully intend on taking a class...

My friend, my stepdaughter and I came to Thames Glass to try the glass blowing experience and we had so much fun! I assumed we would have a very small part in the actual creation of our item because we have no experience, but we were actually really involved in the whole process. We picked out our items and colors (two pumpkins and an ornament) and helped to add colors, shape and blow the glass. The finished products were actually bigger than the site makes them look, and it is the craziest thing watching them come into shape. The employees were so friendly and and we loved the casual atmosphere of the shop. You do have to call at least a week in advance to make sure there is an opening but it was worth waiting for! I get the feeling we will be back to make more beautiful...

Quaint storefront that has beautiful pieces to buy. The workshop area is a good size. Didn’t have a lot of colors to pick from 6-8 colors. I didn’t ask if they had the specific color I was looking for. Fun experience to do with different options on how your bulb can come out, spiral or dots. A little disappointed with how my item came out as the bottom of the bulb doesn’t have color and the spiral starts out tight (which is what I wanted) at the top and then is very loose the rest of the way. Also, a couple areas that have no color somehow in the middle of the ornament. Glad the class was on the cheaper side for how this came out, but was looking forward to going again but not gonna chance another one to come out...

Wonderful and fun experience! We made a total of 5 beautiful ornaments and John was fantastic at teaching us the proper technique of glassblowing ornaments. From choosing colors, to how slowly or quickly to turn the rod. And to blow into the rod at the correct speed so you don't "pop" the glass. It was a great experience and I'm looking forward to going back to make a wave!! Highly recommend Thames Street Glassblowing for a fun and educational experience!!! Plus you'll have a wonderful keepsake that you helped to make and design that can be passed down for generations!!❤️

We visited this shop to make ornaments with our kids, ages 6 & 9. I was nervous going in from a safety perspective, but was put at ease almost immediately. This operation is super solid, and the artists were patient and helpful with us. We learned so much during this very hands-on experience. This was a unique opportunity we all enjoyed, and the showroom also had some beautiful pieces to purchase in addition to our creations. Try it if you’re in Newport—you won’t be disappointed!
